Spotlight to Background - Thomas’ Forgotten CGI Characters

Usual Bloke Luke

Everyone remembers who Charlie, Scruf, Stafford and Flynn are right? No? Well, when the Brenner era was just getting started with Series 17, the writing staff decided to give each of them their own solo stories to see if anything could be done with them, other than just to sell toys like they were in the previous nitrogen era. Today's video is looking into how well they did it.

We need a part 2 for other characters such as Stanley, Norman, Sidney, and Timothy

10:55 using the Flying Battery Zone music is wild

8:28 Henry said “What?” even he’s puzzled by that.

Stafford I feel has the most wasted potential when you consider he's literally the first ever electric engine to appear in the franchise! Had they decided to electrify the Peel Godred branch line like in The Railway Series, we could have had a bunch of other electric engines as well, which get their electricity in a different way! Not just newer ones like the class 86, but more outdated ones like the EE1 and ES1. Heck, you could even introduce EMU characters!

2:22 He’s literally a shunter, of course he’s gonna run out on the main line.

Remember Double Header/Time for Trouble?

14:53 They really should've worded that different. They should've said he had a blowback or something because that would've actually made sense.

Come to think of it, "Steamie Stafford" reminds me of how many times electric cars have snuck up on me.

Flynn did have a badass Plarail toy though, not just because it was one of the only toys that accurately depicts his road and rail wheels, but there's track pieces that let him switch from rail track to road track, then back again.

11:30 made me giggle far more than it should of done 😂

Steamie Stafford holds a special place in my book because he actually got me to laugh at a Thomas episode for the first time in YEARS when he was making steam engine sounds as he approached the bridge where the kids were.

0:34 Devil’s advocate, he’s making a joke about a fictional place, like how we would joke about going to Atlantis

Now that I think about it, Charlie's role reminds me of Spud from Bob the Builder.

Not Now Charlie is The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

They both act jokey so when the actual thing happens nobody takes them seriously.

8:27 I love that Henry goes “huh?” When Thomas calls him old and wise 😂, it’s like he takes offence to it😂

Now I am realising how similar TTTE and FS are in terms of history

Stanley also deserves better as he was apart of the steam team but when the show changed to CGI he was quickly forgotten. He does appear but less. Stanley was introduced to be some special and new addition to the team but the crew never actually do anything with him. He just speaks like 5 or something lines after the CGI. Bro needs to be back.
