The documentary “Behshahr, in Search of Mirrors” is a personal, heartwarming, and research-based account of the narrator’s journey to his hometown, Behshahr (the Safavid capital). The journey begins with an exploration of the history of Safavid architecture and the enduring relics of Shah Abbas—including the Chehelsotun Garden, the Emarat Fountain, and the Abbasabad World Heritage Site. The narrator then delves into the daily lives of the people in the traditional bazaar, historic factories, and Amirabad Port on the shores of the Caspian Sea. He then moves on to the indigenous traditions of the Georgian neighborhood and the Qajar tekei of Rostamkola, before reaching the thousands of years of history of Gohar Tepe. Finally, with the delightful resonance of the two-stringed lute by Ustad Mohammad Reza Ishaghi, the memory of the pious scholar Ayatollah Kohistani, and the affectionate visit to his mother, a deep journey into the historical and emotional memory of Mazandaran is completed.
