Nine weeks into driving the entire coastline of mainland Scotland whilst living in my van and the journey brings me to my home city of Dundee.

Known historically for jute, jam and journalism, Dundee is a city built on industry, innovation and discovery. From the RRS Discovery and Verdant Works to the McManus Gallery and the city’s modern creative industries, this episode explores the many layers of Dundee’s past and present.

Along the way I visit small businesses, catch up with friends and show some of the everyday realities of life on the road, from laundrettes and storage units to finding great local food.

With sunset views over the River Tay, a visit to Mills Observatory and stories from the people who make the city what it is today, this chapter of the journey offers a different side of Scotland before the road continues north.

Thanks for taking me home David! I left as a teenager in the late 60’s - yes, very much a senior now! Each time I come home for a visit my brother will pick me up at Edinburgh airport, and I always ask him to approach Dundee from the Fife side. That view of Dundee coming across the bridge, and seeing it rise up the hill makes me weepy. It’s a beautiful approach.

Dundee has been my home since 2020, just before Covid... I had chance to move back up the road to the Highlands but I chose to stay put & can't see myself leaving any time soon either... People here are amazing! 😁

As a dundonian, this was class and a little bit emotional to watch. The rest of Scotland often paints our city as some sort of deprived third world hellhole, but you've certainly shown the world what our home is truly all about.

OMG,!! Great video….Left Dundee in 1964 for Los Angeles. Was born at 14 Grove Street off the Ferry Rd, then moved to West Kirkton when I was 7…Tam Moore and all the crooked counselors ruined our beautiful Dundee..My father worked on the Fifie for years (Scotscraig). The last time I was back 2019 to the Solheim Cup..Played a few golf courses..Would love to come back, but too old to travel…Ellenie Robb

Cool video. I lived in Dundee when I was at university 1985 - 90 and loved my time there, made lifelong friends, drank far too much, worked the door at the Coconut Grove and Fatties, still go back every few years and was there for a weekend this month with my wife. So much has changed, so much is still the same!

Excellent and POSITIVE video about Dundee and its small businesses. They will undoubtedly see an increase in their orders. The understated generosity of Dundee citizens is their trademark. The amount of people I know who have been helped from ordinary people is humbling. Your video has done more for Dundee than the official tourist board/ departments. Well done David.

The castle and its rugged coastline... Dundee, a city worth visiting, the incredible polar exploration vessel and its historical treasures... the city and its statues, the singer, the great addresses that make you want to go there, and the observatory and its amazing warden with an incredible view. Thank you...

What a Gem of a channel this is, just found it today,went to east coast Scotland last summer amazing place and amazing people, the people up there are so friendly,it was that good we are back there this summer, and your home town Dundee was amazing,cheers mate for fabulous watch and great information I am taking on board for this summer, looking forward to watching rest of this trip cheers David 🙏👍❤️

Hello My parents are from Dundee they migrated to Australia in the early 60’s. I started watching your channel to get a view of Dundee. Part way through your video I came across the Bubas sauce. Ive order a box of sweet &spicy and a box of narga sauce.
