➡️ "Sabotage" is one of those songs I grew up absolutely hating — mostly thanks to being forced to play it in Rock Band and Guitar Hero campaigns where you couldn’t skip it. But after years of exploring Fugazi, Rage Against the Machine, and other bands that thrive on minimalism and tension, I decided to give Beastie Boys another shot. In this video, I revisit "Sabotage" with fresh ears, break down that dominant 7th bass riff that never resolves, the rhythmic dissonance that keeps you off balance, and the intentionally abrasive textures that make this song so iconic. It turns out what once felt like nails on a chalkboard might actually be brilliant use of tension and release — or lack of release — to keep you on edge. Consider this my reintroduction to the Beastie Boys, and maybe the start of another rabbit hole?
