Walking through Hanoi's Old Quarter is one of the easiest ways to experience the shopping streets, local shops and everyday atmosphere of central Hanoi.
In this video, I'm taking a walk through Hang Gai Street and the surrounding streets of Hanoi's Old Quarter, simply exploring the shops and seeing what catches my attention.
Along the way, you'll find all kinds of things for visitors to Vietnam — clothes, shoes, Vietnamese silk, souvenirs, handicrafts and many other products sold in the small shops along the street.
One shop in particular caught my attention: Authentic Bat Trang.
The store is filled with Vietnamese handmade pottery and ceramics, including cups, bowls, plates, tea sets and beautiful decorative vases.
Some of the household items cost around $6–$12, while tea sets can range from around $16 to $48 or even more. Decorative vases and artistic pottery can also start at around $15.
For many local Vietnamese shoppers, these prices can feel quite expensive compared with ordinary household ceramics. But the shop is mainly aimed at international visitors and tourists looking for handmade Vietnamese products to take home.
What makes it even more interesting is that the experience doesn't stop at shopping. Visitors can also take trips to Bat Trang pottery village and join pottery-making classes to experience Vietnamese ceramics for themselves.
But this video isn't only about pottery.
Most of the journey is simply about walking through Hanoi — looking at the shops, watching the people, discovering the streets and seeing what everyday shopping in the Old Quarter feels like.
So come with me for a walk through Hanoi's Old Quarter and Hang Gai Street, and let's see what we can find along the way.
If you were visiting Hanoi, what would you want to buy — Vietnamese silk, handicrafts, souvenirs, or handmade pottery?
And would you spend $48 on a Vietnamese handmade tea set?
Let me know in the comments.
If you'd like me to explore more shopping streets, local markets, traditional crafts, food and everyday life in Vietnam, let me know what you'd like to see next.
Thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next episode.
