Many mobile phones advertise 100 million or even 200 million pixels, but the image quality is often inferior to that of a traditional camera with only 20 million pixels. The core reason is that the size of a mobile phone's image sensor is limited. Simply stacking high pixel counts compresses the light-receiving area of each pixel, easily producing a large amount of noise. Noise reduction algorithms also erase real details. In addition, due to the physical limitations of optical diffraction, too many pixels cannot achieve effective resolution. Most mobile phones use pixel binning for everyday shooting and rarely use full-pixel mode; high pixel counts are only valuable in bright sunlight and still life scenes. When buying a camera phone, prioritize image sensor size, optical image stabilization, and lens quality, and don't be simply led astray by marketing gimmicks about pixel numbers.
Many smartphones advertise 100‑million or even 200‑million‑pixel cameras, yet their real‑world image quality often falls behind traditional 20‑million‑pixel cameras. The core reason lies in phones’ tiny image sensors. Cramming huge pixel counts shrinks each pixel’s light‑receiving area, causing heavy noise. Noise‑reduction algorithms tend to erase genuine details together with grain. Furthermore, optical diffraction physically resolving power, rendering excess pixels limits ineffective. Most phones use pixel‑binning in daily shooting and rarely activate full‑resolution mode. High‑pixel modes are only useful for static‑scene shooting under bright sunlight. When buying a camera‑phone, prioritize sensor size, optical image stabilization and lens quality instead of falling for pixel‑number marketing gimmicks.
