Many sermons aren’t spirit led or filled at all…and the old testament is considered completely separate from the New Testament, therefore, most things preached do not have the proper context. Jesus was Jewish. His disciples were also Jewish. They followed the written (not oral) law once following Jesus.
When Jesus arose, He left the helper (the Holy Spirit) that teaches everyone equally. We’re technically no longer in need of a “teacher” as long as we remain in the Word and the Spirit. Fellowshipping with like minded believers is important and if one can find such a group, then by all means, definitely join. But trying to say any pretty girl who is seen in church or goes to church functions is “Christian” is a lie. A Christian is one who mimics and follows Christ and His ways. Not simply one who believes He existed, quotes John 3:16, and attends church, a Bible college, etc.
My older brother dated then married a pastor’s daughter. We had considerable dysfunction in our “Christian” home. And terrible examples of a “Christian” couple for parents. When my bro was engaged to the pastor’s daughter and attended a Bible school, he got her pregnant. He and she had also taken pledges to wait until marriage. Additionally, after I moved out of the house (I was the glue, the mediator, the parentified scapegoat of the narcissistic/dysfunctional family), my mom left my dad for another man. And after that, both my mom and dad started to completely show hypocrisy about how they forced us to live and believe. Everything we were taught was out the door. This damaged my entire family, led to abuse in my brother’s marriage, secular hard rock music blaring, disgusting R rated videos playing, and eventually, their divorce.
As far as his wife was concerned, she remarried to a secular man. And began relationships with secular men when still legally married to my brother.
So many of today’s pastors, associate pastors, worship leaders, etc are unfaithful to their spouses, addicted to porn, there to be seen and worshiped themselves, and those in attendance are there because they’re taught that’s all they need to do to be considered a “Christian.” Then they go back to their worldly ways the rest of the week.
One must casually get to know a person (no rushed intimacy), their family, understand if there is any childhood trauma that could surface in a marriage, be on the same page with morals, goals, etc….and not simply marry someone who attends a church function or organization and looks attractive to them.
