As a Singaporean I’d never expect Singapore to be on Vice

Whye Kee is able to put his leadership skills to good use in his volunteer work. I can respect that.

He is living proof that you can always climb back up and turn your life around, no matter how despairingly deep the hole you have dug for yourself feels like.

This is so heart warming and sad all at the same time, having to journey through your darkest days just to get to a ‘better tomorrow’. Whye Kee is a brave man for journeying through that darkest period and making that life-changing choice.

There is a quote for those who had roam this side . "No one will know the violence to become this gentle."

Interesting that his darkest moment wasn’t when he was in his gang but the aftermath where he struggled to look for a job but took drugs after failing. I can relate in certain ways, when he was with his gang he had people to rely and be around with, hard to live with reality simply rejects you

As the saying goes- just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly. Whye Kee's story demonstrates that life is a process of growth, change and emergence.

THIS is a real success story.  Not those of ppl born privileged.

All the respect to you, Whye Kee. Having grown up in the Yuhua community area myself, where CIDs frequented my school on a weekly basis, I know how tumultuous that period was around the Jurong area. Hai Kim kias pretty much ruled that area and a number of my class mates were part of the gang.  If I had mentioned their names I am pretty sure you would know them :). Great to see you turning a new leaf and contributing to society. Keep up the good work and and never say die spirit bro!

I am glad Whye Kee was given the opportunity to be involved in community work without discrimination. I pray more will be gracious and give those who have a bad past a second and third chance.  Where there is life, there is hope when opportunity is given.

This is how feeling lack of love could leads you into the deepest anger but the nature character of love will able to guide you to sense and express love in most beautiful way 😊

honestly he seems the sweetest guy like i would never think ever gang member. but his life story he has learnt many lessons from it and time in prison and has turned his life around this is awesome.

Just a correction, he was the “Headman” of the gang not hitman.

I used to be in the 369 gang. I thought I was a gangster because I feel welcomed at a time where I felt estranged from everyone I love. Then I saw my gang members beat up a guy at a bus stop for no reason other than staring. It's the day I thought nah, I'm no gangster. Beating 1 person up using all of your "friends" is not the the type of person I am. It was brutal but for a while I have a sense of belonging..
