Love this. I grew up on 17th Ave between Bath and Benson in the 60's and 70's. Hanging out in the PS 163 schoolyard. We didn't have cars so had to walk everywhere. 17th Ave park where we saw Son of Sam's last murder victim scene. Walking over to 18th and 86th St to Lenny's Pizza, Jahn's Restaurant and who can forget L&B Spumoni Gardens. I pretty much remember all these places you are revisiting. Joe Columbo sister lived across the street from us.
I was a student at PS 163 during the early 1980s. My teachers were Mrs. Kristaforski, Mr. Steinberg, and then Mrs. Ricco. I saw plenty of male students who looked like future mafiosos. It was a nice area.
This is my neighborhood Im in these stores every day of my life and it still amazes me what used to be here and wish I was there to see it with my own two eyes
I met Joe Coffey years ago at Rye Playland, where he was a techical advisor for a movie they were shooting there. What a great guy, a total gentleman. He spent quite a while speaking with us. RIP, Sir, and thank you for taking your time out to share some things with two suburban cops that day.
This is 24K GOLD content! Frank Pergola is an NYPD legend. Breaking the "French Connection STOLEN Heroin" case on NYC CRIME SPOT! PRICELESS!! Then "Eatin cannoli cream outa da back room....". CLASSIC ❤️. Dude was part of elite NYPD team that took down Roy Demeo crew + "Mafia Cops".
This girl I was dating lived on Bath Avenue and 19th Ave. Even the mechanics at the car shops were all Italian. This was around the Bath Avenue crew days in the 80s.
Put his head in the "terlet" - I love the old school Brooklyn accent that came out there. My grandma talked like that, love it. Man, Frank is a wealth of information, every sentence that comes out of his mouth could very well be new information that has never been revealed in any text. A national treasure there.
