In Suffolk, Financiers bought many of the smaller farms, as they became available.
They looked at the huge hedgerows, and decided that if they removed them they could increase the land area available and consequently their profits.
However when the hedges were gone, the thousands of small birds that used to live and nest in them went too.
Then billions of bugs they ate, had a free run, so crops had to be sprayed with pesticides. In addition the billions of weed seeds that blew across the land, were no longer trapped by the hedges. so they had to use herbicides to kill the weeds.
Also, the flat East Anglian lands, were subject to winds that blew the topsoil away, without the hedges to act as windbreaks.
Eventually they worked out that they were spending far more on pesticides, herbicides, diesel and labour, than they had gained from the extra land gained by removing the hedges, so they started replanting hedges.
Some common sense might have told them that hedges that had been there for generations were not there just to look pretty, and probably had a serious purpose!

The same crop could be turned into premium apples, juice, cider, vinegar and other products, sold directly to customers at much higher margins. Orchards would also create tourism opportunities, improve the farm’s visual appeal, support biodiversity and provide a long-term agricultural asset, while giving Clarkson a distinctive Diddly Squat apple and cider business with strong branding and TV potential.

On another note, regenerative farming is an absolute necessity.  And getting rid of all the GMOs too.  The soil has to be cared for.  It's health is the source of everything.  Clarkson's biggest role is to encourage the farmers of Britain to do what is right, not what the government dictates.
