My name is Aloubell and I am a hobbyist digital artist as well as a published children's book author. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, and, thanks to the Lord, my art journey continues! As a Christian, I give full acknowledgement that all success I get from art and life in general is thanks to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I'm proud to say He has helped make each and every art piece of mine possible.

My dream is to have a career where I can be creative. This YouTube channel is a means in which I can achieve that dream!

I have a lot to talk about whether it be anime, cartoons, books, or just me retelling stories from my own life.

I'm very much still learning how to be better as an artist, so I appreciate your support on my journey!

Respectfully, I think people underestimate how small things that happen in people's lives can also cause massive repercussions too depending on the person and situation. I personally think it actually benefits the storytelling but that’s just me. ☀️

Yess finally someone who understands why the backstory is so simple. Like idk why everybody wants some kind of messed up trauma in order to have sympathy for a character.

Starlight glimmer backstory is not bad it just needs some more time to explore this of the aftermath of young Starlight glimmer point of view after sunburst left for magic school

2:46 I will say it's sadly REALISTIC how most parents get so distracted on moving to another location with their family for whatever the reason is that they forget that their child has made friends up to this point.

So most of the time it's mainly up to the child like Sunburst that has to remind their parents that they have friends that they're about to move away from and they want to say Goodbye to them. So you are RIGHT for Sunburst having some of the blame.😅

What people have to remember is that some things that might appear like "no big deal" to a grown adult can feel devastating to a child and for Starlight watching her only friend discover his gift and go to a school for gifted people while he and the adults cheering for him payed her no mind must have left an gaping emotional wound that took significant time to heal.

20:17 Also attempted to murder Spike! Don’t forget him. He’s a main character. He’s important. He exists

Yeah I headcanon that starlight glimmer got into a fight with bully or she was trying to send sunburst massage letters see how he was doing but no response so she keeps doing it and doing it and doing it and eventually she stop and thinking that her childhood forgotten about her and making starlight glimmer hate cutie marks for that

Equestria is literally built on friendship being the most powerful force of their world, so for me this "simple" trauma that she experience work since based on the little info we got she might had not have others friends and "losing" the only friend she got due to a cutemark might have been a big change for her that changed her perception on cutiemark from being tied to someone destiny to a weapon that divide ponies (reason she created her own town and stole everypony cutiemark)

If her mother was out of the picture either via death or possibly divorce...that only STRENGHTEN her worldview that differences between people are bad.

Starlight's backstory kinda reminds me on how major moment's someone's childhood or past can have a great effect on how a person acts or behaves in the present. It may not be seen a significant to others but to the person effected it is, especially on how they were raised back at home. People are different in the aspects of emotional maturity, mental state, and perspective of life. People can have the same background then become different people later in life because in the end we're all different. ☀️

I do kinda wish we'd see more on the aftermath of Starlight's cult. We barely even see them besides a few moments in certain episodes.

I love Starlight Glimmer, I ain’t lying when I say she is my most favorite character in the show! And I agree, a situation that looks like nothing to someone can be devastating to someone else. Everyone is different and reacts to a problem differently.

I personally always liked this backstory as I saw it as the event that Starlight herself blames s the inciting incident for why she turned out the way she did, even if it would have been cool to see the specific events and potential later traumas that lead to her forming her philosophy and town it wouldn't change the fact that this is the incident that she sees as the start of it all, also I can't believe that I've always had this opinion of her backstory yet never made the connection to the butterfly effect and how it ties to the rest of the finale, makes me appreciate it even more.

Sun for Sunset, Celestia, Sunburst, and Sunny Starscout. ☀️

Everyone who said Starlight's backstory wasn't bad probably had a great family life and steady friendships in their childhoods so they don't understand

@danielmalinen6337 2 weeks ago (edited)

Also the growth environment. Factor that has not been told in Starlight's backstory, but is shown later. Starlight and Sunburst's childhood town is divided and contentious between those who want to preserve it and those who want to renew it. When we understand and note this environment Starlight grew up in, we begin to understand better why she wanted extremist egalitarianism as an older. Plus I've always interpreted that Starlight isn't telling the whole truth about what happened but only a short, more streamlined and simplified version of it, but there's clearly a lot she's not telling as an unreliable and biased narrator and the whole truth and what exactly happened remains an untold mystery to us as an audience.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I've always loved and related to Starlight's backstory ☀

A little something, remember that their parents weren’t really that close or at least Stellar Flare and Firelight weren’t, remember Parent Map. It could also factor into why they didn’t take their kid’s separation as seriously as they probably should.

This is the most beautiful take on Starlight Glimmer I've ever heard. I understood her focusing on that betrayal from Sunburst when I watched the episodes recently. People don't understand how even the smallest betrayal can traumatically rewrite the entire system of trust and stability for a person. As somebody who is currently in a similar situation and having to move past cutting off a sibling that betrayed/hurt me I feel a kindred sense of being heard through Starlight. I thought similar to her having not as strong a backstory until it happened to me. And now I understand. It's a very small step, but the slope is steep and painful. I heal a little bit when I watch her episodes. My fiance and I are looking at cosplaying Starlight Glimmer and Sunburst because he looks like a human version of him. He's my safe place. Our wedding is one year away from today, in fact. 🩵💜 🧡💛

There's no need for a big catastrophe to happen in someone's life, I was a latchkey kid, like many of my generation (yes, I'm from the same generation as the writers working on FiM) I would fall completely before asking for help, just like you, even at my old age. I'm a DIY at heart. My parents were never here, so that's the way I learned to deal with everything, while acting as a parent to my little sister. It made me a better parent for my daughters, and I made sure they had a better childhood.

9:23 Firelight must have felt some guilt, "turning back the time to fix something" and it just push someone away.

I agree with with everything in this video. Finally, someone get the full character.

I myself quickly became fond of Tempest Shadow. While Starlight had more time to develop and Tempest was crammed into one movie, I thought Tempest was completely awesome her backstory was gripping and I consider "Open Up Your Eyes" to be the number one memorable in the entire show. Her only flaw is not having a second appearance. ☀
