On July 20, 1985, at a Soviet-Finnish border checkpoint, KGB agents were inspecting a British diplomatic car, unaware that the West's most valuable spy of the Cold War era was mysteriously hidden in the trunk of the car.
This documentary is about the life and breathtaking escape of Oleg Gordievsky, the KGB station chief in London who worked as a double agent for the British secret intelligence agency (MI6). This historical investigation examines his crucial role in preventing World War III during NATO's 1983 nuclear exercises, his exposure by a CIA undercover agent, and his resistance to interrogation with a "truth serum."
The final section of the documentary is dedicated to the autopsy of the top-secret and ingenious Operation Pimlico, the plan MI6 devised and executed to smuggle its crown jewel out of the heart of Moscow and away from the eyes of the Soviet security service. A documentary of deception, infiltration and escape at the height of Cold War tensions.
