The stop shot can be critical to your success in the game of Pool. In this video, you will learn how to set up a straight Pool pattern of nine balls. This pattern must be shot with only stop shots. Each shot will test your skills in order to successfully achieve the run out.
This is my favorite stop shot exercise for any player.

This is a great drill Ron & Tony!! Great shooting on that runout Ron, as I feel you completed it great. Granted, we all want the perfect stop shot (no draw, no side spin) but it's still a stop shot and is demonstrating minimal cue ball movement to complete the run and making it look easy, when we know it isn't! Great job and thanks Tony for sharing with Ron to allow him to help us all become better players!! Great team work!! :elbowcough:👍👋

Big Duh on my part, I didn't have to follow your set up, I just made my own pattern of nine balls. It's pretty satisfying going through the pattern using proper stop/stun shots, and methodically running a table of nine balls. I realized there was nothing special about the pattern you used, mine was similar except for some longer shots, kudos to you and Tony for showing us this exercise 😁

Thanks Ron for sharing this, and thank you very much Tony for sharing it with Ron 😀I've been using stop shots as much as possible when the balls set up to do it, if you can see a pattern with 3 or 4 consecutive stop shots you've really minimized the cue ball movement which is always a good thing. Ron, can you please show us an above view so we can set this up on our tables at home?

Hi Ron. Thank you for sharing this video. Was a bit unclear from the outset when you first posted the video as to if the "goal" was both of selecting a stop-shot pattern AND a goal of having the last ball be an "ending" straight pool break shot OR if the last shot was supposed to be the pattern that ends with a stop-shot on the 8-ball in an 8-ball game. I am finding that I am gaining confidence as I improve my ability to quickly find either a different stop-shot pattern or any easiest new pattern when I get a little out of line on a shot that changes my "original" pattern. Even if my new pattern may not consist of all stop shots because often that just is not feasible, there is a lot of knowledge to be gained on "HOW" to quickly "determine" a new pattern when things deviate from our first pattern. I found a terrific book on this concept by Phill Capelle titled, "Break Shot Patterns." Tony Robles is in the book too. That book has tremendously improved my ability to select "patterns" when only 5 or 6 shots remain on the table in straight pool. If you have the same book, I am wondering of your thoughts on it? Also, perhaps in future videos I imagine there would be a lot of similar interest among your subscribers on "how to determine" the best pattern on a group of 5-8 remaining balls in straight pool or 8-ball. Being able to quickly adapt to selecting a "revised pattern" with minimal cue ball movement seems to be a real key to improved confidence at the table to avoid that awful feeling of being lost on "what do I do next" when you have to change your pattern plan with an open table of shots. Often times that is the worst feeling as I feel "lost" as how to proceed to a new pattern. Thanks Ron. Great channel. And many thanks to Tony for his great and friendly advice.
