Our visit to the 2025 Krampus event in Whitby was nothing short of electric. The day opened with the surreal thrill of watching the Krampus parade surge down Baxtergate, a collision of rattling chains, horns, fur, and fire-red masks weaving through the crowd. The atmosphere was loud, chaotic, and completely irresistible as performers stalked, danced, and roared their way along the street.

From there, we headed up to the Royal Hotel, where the seasonal stalls transformed the area into a lively alpine market. Artisan crafts, gothic trinkets, seasonal treats, and costumed characters filled every corner. The mix of traditional folklore and Whitby’s distinctive charm made the entire marketplace feel festive, eerie, and full of energy.

As dusk began to settle, we joined the gathering around Captain Cook’s monument for the final ceremony. Drums echoed across the clifftop, torches flared, and the Krampus procession circled the crowd in a dramatic crescendo. The backdrop of the North Sea and Whitby’s skyline gave the finale an almost mythic quality—equal parts celebration and spectacle.
The whole experience was immersive, wild, and unforgettable. A perfect blend of folklore, performance, and Whitby’s unbeatable atmosphere.
