I bought a couple of solar panels 3 years ago which I placed on the roof of my summer house to charge a portable Bluetti battery.  In the summer it charges very quickly, so I bring it into the house and use it to power an air fryer, etc, or it can power the electric lawn mower in the garden.  The panels still charge the battery in the winter but obviously more slowly.  No idea how much money it's saving in the grand scheme of things, but any "free" electricity feels like a bonus.

"over a million Germans can't be wrong can they?" Erm........

Basic Plug in Solar + smart meter + smart tariff + some load timing management = quickest payback

I think you hit on the reason why plugin solar WILL be a “game changer” (along with batteries when they come). People don’t understand how solar works, and all the potential benefits, until they get their first direct experience. I started with a “small” 6kw system, got some direct experience with solar and got excited. Then I spent 10 years electrifying the entire house, switching to EVs, installing batteries, and now the 24KW solar array on my house and carport powers everything, including backup in a grid outage. It’s kinda magical!!

I bought plug-in solar panels and I put them on the roof of my summerhouse. It’s been 4 months now and I’ve already saved over €200 and my system cost €560 complete. I fitted them myself in just a morning. I expect to have saved the cost of the panels in under 2 years and then the energy will be free. I live in Europe and plug-in solar has been around for years.

Some good points made - especially the nod to not getting several 'sets' of it and plugging them in all over the house :D  I do confess that was what I immediately thought to do :O

Looking forward to plug in batteries 👍

German here... I own one of these. With a 2.7 kWh battery. And it is just great. During summer my apartment only needs power from the grid when I turn on the washing machine or kettle etc.

But the best thing over here is, that the law forbids landlords to deny you the installation. HOA still can though (But 70% of people here rent their apartment/house). Over 960 Wp you need a special plug/socket though. Wich is not expensive, but for most it would require an electrician to install it.

3:35 A million registered balcony systems in Germany 🇩🇪. It's estimated that the total, including unregistered systems is four million 😮.

I'm an Australian, I did my Masters in (a) Sustainable Development (topic; water). One of the things we discovered here (remember how dry it can be here) was that a 1 cubic meter rain water tank did a remarkable job of 1. reducing storm water runoff 2. reducing household water use substantially.
I see the same for "plugin battery". Solar in the UK seems like some sort of joke when you consider the daily sunshine and the type of living / house orientaiton.
Plugin Battery would obviate all this and perhaps allow the power companies to use that and better balance power demands.

I've got a plugin solar in Belgium  (2 800W micro inverters connected to 2 of the 3 phrases in our house, here the 800W limit is per phase), coupled with a 5kWh plug-in battery.
Each 800W microinverter is connected to 4 panels, 450W each, so is overpanelled in parallel.
Total generation for July just hit 310kWh (150kWh from one array and 160kWh from the other). We have imported only 38kWh from the grid in July.

the lowest cost and simplistic plug in solar is great…it will power the base load of the house…and it feels great generating your own power. Get a set .

Double these up as awning about patio doors, and you're helping keep your home cooler while generating some green energy for yourself.

Yeah, the Octopus announcement for the scalable plug in solution a few weeks ago looks interesting, especially for the system integration with their tarrifs - I guess we'll have to see if the pricing is market competitive.
Great video, looking forward to your view on products and the market soon 🙂

In South Africa we have solar so we can have power and not a 4hr blackout per day.

DJI power 2000 owner here. Battery to home works. Smart meter adds up everything that has been 'exported' so I guess the computers that read my smart meter knows that I have mistakenly sent power to the grid 😅. Only happened when agile tariff was high during the recent heatwaves. I'll probably buy an official plug in solar kit when they are released to legitimise my inputs.

This bloke is a superb talent at explaining solar. Add to that his accent which is Paul Daniels all over again, you have the ideal tutor.  All we need is a few
"Not a lot"s and we have perfection.

Great video as always, nice clear information.

Australian regulators are dramatically revising tariffs due to lower revenue from customers. The fixed daily charge for many has recently doubled and is heading for an industry watchdogs recommended 400% increase to pay for the grids maintenance and stability, and legislation has also prohibited disconnection from the grid except for remote communities.

Good stuff, like you said I want plugin battery for that cheaper rate to use during the day, also sometimes we have power outages ( probably those hungry data centres! )
