IIRC, Kristina was not physically harmed by RJ, so my thoughts are similar to yours:  she was brainwashed, probably using drugs to increase the effect, and left believing she’d already transitioned.  There is no trigger phrase for Jane to find or use beyond the seance candle.

Red John broke her mentally and convinced her that she is dead i believe.

I sometimes wonder in The Mentalist, there's one timeline where THEY ACTUALLY show us how Red John manages to find out who/what was giving Patrick Jane clues to solving RJ's case. Like its just handed to us pretty often and not earned.

I didn't hear you mention that. Rigsby said: According to the doctor, the puncture wound on her arm was from an intravenous infusion. And I don't think RJ fed her through in that way. Maybe he did if she was already partially brainwashed, but it's more likely that RJ was continuously giving Kristina some kind of mind-altering substance. If you combine that with RJ's knowledge and ability to manipulate people and the mind, I'm not surprised this was the result.

But it's a shame the series forgot about Kristina Frye. Interesting case, important to Jane, and also connected to RJ in some way.

it either can be torture+hypnotism or the more complex one is the fact that seeing how deeply connected was RJ, he could've get his hands on an experimental CIA/NSA weapon or drug to make her believe she is dead.

Kristina should have been Red John, would have made more sense than the Sheriff

1:07 it is so weird seeing the smiley face backwards.

I really hoped she was Red John

Hello! I'm a Korean viewer who recently started watching The Mentalist on Netflix and finally binged the entire series. I'm so glad to see a YouTuber still doing such in-depth analyses of a show that ended more than 10 years ago.

After suffering a 'mind-wipe, or whatever you want to call it' by Red John, Christina completely disappeared from the series.

Did the Patrick Jane we know not have the capability to heal her? Given his track record, we expected Jane to be able to restore someone whose mind was intentionally manipulated and broken by another human being. Did Jane give up too easily? Or did he intentionally avoid trying to bring her back?

No. Even Jane couldn't fix this specific kind of psychological destruction inflicted by Red John. Red John did something to Christina—a 'mind-wipe or whatever it was'—that even Jane could never untangle.

It’s like an exceptionally powerful hypnotist casting a trance that even they themselves could never break. Jane and Red John’s abilities are astonishingly evenly matched.

Leslie Hope became one of my favorite actresses because of her role as Kristina Frye on The Mentalist, and Kristina was one of my very favorite characters.  Thanks for this recap.

that's just some shit that bruno heller forgot.
but that was dope as fuck.

to think red john was XXXX person, damn.

Thought it was gonna be how red John guessed the EXACT 7 suspects on Jane’s list before Jane even thought about making it

Thank you for this very credible explanation of the happenings around the  Kristina Frye character. It was always very confusing and I assumed the writers just left the story line hanging.

Another thing we don't know is how bret stiles knew where kristina frye was?

Hello, I really enjoyed your video and the way you tell the story.
Would it be possible to make a video about Rosalind Harke—the blind woman close to Red John (Roy Tagliaferro)—and what happened to her (hypnosis or something else)?
Thanks in advance.

Christina was going to be Red John.  The writers eventually decided against it and after that they had no further use for her so she was quietly retconned out  of the series.

Jane could bring Christina out of her trance, but then there is the risk Red John would kill her and so Jane waited till he killed Red John to wake her up.
Perhaps the writer forgot to wake her after Red John's death ;)

Nice analysis. Thank you.

id love too see a red jon show because him pulling up in full officers gear to fake would be lit

I mean she has a tape on her arm, which clearly indicates that they have been drugging her. Your theory is absolutely possible. If you recall the moment when Jane was drugged, even though he was aware of the fact his daughter was not real, it was still emotionally hard for him to deal with it. I would not be surprised that, like you have mentioned already, they were simply lazy and could not be bothered to fix that plot hole.

Just after the 7 minute mark you managed to make a huge spoiler look like a small one nice job with that
