Even having a coach doesn't help when you are young and arrogant. A good honest coach and a student who completely follows him both need to come together. I have seen good men taken advantage of by crooked people in the name of mentoring.

I never went after women even though I could have. I wanted to get better in my work and great eventually. Focussed on skills skills skills, began to excel after 10 years of work experience. Girls came closer. Gave a fuck. Continued to work hard and build my career. Rejected promotions 2 times and continued learning the craft. And then came AI. Turned my career obsolete, overnight. My entire 23 year old carefully crafted, curated career vaporised in the AI aftermath, in an instant. COVID taught us worse. Nature doesn't give a shit, nor AI, nor the corporate world. Before Covid, lost my dad when I just began to realise his wisdom. Everything he said was a pearl of wisdom. Wish he was around. I think these are enough for me to take control of my own life. Enuff said. Working on my own shit, in the face of AI.

I reached rock bottom early on in life, when I left home and went to the UK for higher education, as a self financed student. That was the biggest learning phase of my life. All I wanted was to be able to pay my school fees and have a roof over my head. Even food was a second priority. Looking back, that was the best phase of my life. It taught me how to make myself and gained exceptional confidence in my abilities.

Our childhood experiences determine at least 50% of who we become. Rest 50% is how we are wired. Regret is very common occurrence. Unless one has screwed up immensely, he will have enough nest egg to retire peacefully. The worst enemy one can have is his pride. The most blessed are those who have proper role models from the beginning and mentors. While I too blame myself for my shortcomings, I have come to accept myself as a product of by bringing up and inherent natural qualities or lack of them. And also understand, above everything, there is also an element of luck which undeniable. So be peaceful, content and let life figure itself out. A message from somebody who is in the same age group as yourself.

What u describe, dear sir, is the arrogance of youth. If you’d had a mentor imposing a good disciplined regime on you, you’d have rejected it. You cant put an old head on young shoulders. It could not have been otherwise because the foundations were laid by 7yo then early teens. Very little was a matter of ‘choice’ before then . When these realisations come later in life it is unbearably sad - you SEE now what you didnt then but whats done is done.
