My RJ moment occurred about thirty years ago when my partner and I were staying in a condo in Honolulu called the Colony Surf.   We had spent the afternoon watching West Side Story on TV.  When we got on the elevator to go out to dinner that evening there was a guy already on it.  I hadn't noticed him but shortly after we got on he said: "Didn't someone write a book about what you're supposed to talk about on an elevator?"  I looked up and it was Robert Wagner!  Almost speechless, I said:"Don't I know you?"  He smiled and said:"Gee, I don't know.  Do you?"  The following night we got onto the elevator again and he was on it with his wife, Jill.  As soon as he saw us he said:"Oh my gosh, you're going to think I'm one of those people who just rides up and down in elevators all day long."  Jill was checking her hair in the elevator mirror.  He was holding her red purse and wearing a different red sweatshirt.   I said:"You know that purse doesn't go with that shirt."   He glanced down at it for a second and, without missing a beat, replied:"Come on.  It's close."    He was gracious and warm and I'll never forget how approachable he was.

"It takes a thief" with RJ and Fred Astaire as his father was the essence of cool.
