The phone call that ended our French road trip. Episode 4 of Beyond the Tolls — our no tolls, no motorway drive through France. This time we leave Sézanne and take the D roads toward the medieval city of Troyes in a Subaru Forester, stopping for an off-road picnic, an unexpected château, and a genuine debate: roof tent or Airbnb?
In Troyes we discover the city's real history — a medieval city that once hosted the legendary Champagne Fairs, and a cathedral filled with breathtaking stained glass. We try lasagne with brie and explore the streets before night falls.
That night, the phone rang — and in the morning we had to explain what happened and head home to family. This is the last episode from the road, and the most personal.
In this episode:
00:00 - Intro & Starting the Drive
01:29 - Discovering a French Château
02:20 - Off-Roading to Find a Picnic Spot
