A Mother Red Fox Gives Birth to 7 Kits… But She Can't Leave the Den | 4K Wildlife Documentary
Wild Epochs
1,210 views
Red fox kits are born blind, deaf and dark brown in a den under the ground, in late March in the northern Rockies — while snow still covers the meadows. For the first weeks the mother barely leaves them, and every meal she eats has to be brought by the father.
A litter usually has four to six kits and can reach thirteen. This film follows one litter of seven through a single year: a late storm, a father lost in a storm, a coyote that digs for the den, an eagle's shadow, a road at dusk, and the summer when the family has to move. Across the places where it has been measured, only about one young fox in four survives its first year.
Some scenes are dramatised from documented fox behaviour — the individual animals are not a real family. Visuals in this film are AI-generated reconstructions based on published red fox biology.
