This is back when performers were musicians

Steve Perry once said “Mother, Father” was their hardest song for him to sing live.

These were real, raw, talented musicians. period

I had a chance to hang out with Steve Perry recently and I was so tongue tied trying to talk to him that he just took my hand. He was so sweet. What a legend!

Steve's parents divorced and it was very difficult for him.  This song was written about a family devastated by divorce.  Steve's father was a musician.

Steve Perry has the most amazing voice of all time 🔥🔥🔥❤️

The entire band = pure awesomeness, but Steve Perry’s voice = NOTHING SHORT OF PERFECTION ❤

The seventh son comes from a Nordic legend that the seventh son in a family has special powers of healing. This is one of my favorites. Steve Perry, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain are the most talented rock trio in my opinion.

Steve was singing great since he was a kid. His mom said he would go around the house singing. She encouraged him as he got older to pursue music. He won an award with a band in his teens. He was having a hard time in his early 20s to get a record deal and was going to leave music. But his mom said to wait. Very shortly after, he got a phone call from Herbie Herbert to join Journey. Years after he left Journey and left music in the 2000s he kind of disappeared. In the 2010s he met a woman who had breast cancer and fell in love for the first time. They were together for 2 years before her passing. When she knew it was time for her passing she made Steve make a promise to pursue music and sing again. That's what he loved to do, and she loved hearing him sing. She knew he needed to get back into it. He kept his promise. Some of his songs are about her. He came back in 2018. ❤

Live concerts back then were genuinely LIVE! It was so much fun! I saw Journey in the 80’s. Just as good live as in a recording! Steve Perry is special! He NEVER strained to hit any notes.

Steve loved performing this song but needed a rest so they included the piano outro for a little recoup time.  I was at this concert and will never forget the experience.

Steve's singing was always passionate.  That's who he is & part of what made him the legend he is.  As for his ability to sing that well even live in concert, Johnathan Cain said it never mattered if Steve was rehearsing, in studio, or live, he was the same amazing singer & performer every time.  That's why Steve Perry is "The Voice" and the GOAT.  Love him.

It's story of a broken home, done with beautiful lyrics and beautiful metaphors

Here is what it means: The phrase "I'm your seventh son" appears in the Journey song "Mother/Father". In the song, the singer identifies himself as the "seventh son" and uses this title to imply he has special, perhaps restorative, powers to help his broken family. This references the folklore of the "seventh son of a seventh son," who was believed to possess unique gifts.

I have had the blessing of seeing this band perform live and , yes, that’s how Steve sounds. No auto tune, just him and the microphone and he could sing in 5 octives.😊

Voted the greatest live male vocal performance of all time.

His father was a singer. He’s the only child, and the first born from the Azer Islands of Portugal. His mom and dad were both from there. His dad was a singer. Steve Perry was self-taught. When he was like five he was standing on the seat of his mom‘s car and Cupid from Sam Cooke came on and he knew that moment he wanted to be a singer. His dad was a co-owner of a radio station his parents got divorced when he was like seven or eight. Which pushed him further into music to deal with the pain. His dad used to sing him to sleep at night. The song is written by all three Neil, the guitar player, steve and Jonathan. And Neil’s dad matt.

I still get chills to his voice and ive been listening since the 80s❤

Sheer and utter brilliance 🤘🤘🤘 Steve is the GOAT ❤❤❤

Yup. That old sound equipment had so much distortion.  No ear piece, no autocorrect.  Stacks and wedges.  Nailed it.  Pure talent.
