Can't believe that's 2004, if you told me that was the early 90's I'd believe it. Not a smart phone or a bit of social media in sight, what a great time to be alive.
I was kinda surprised how many mechanical issues the fleet experienced being that they are very well built, seaworthy ocean-going vessels. Makes me definitely want to do the crossing on a Nordhavn Rally where there is so much support! The support that Nordhavn and Naiad supplied was incredible!
The bugler in the sailboat was probably a Brit and an ex soldier....or just someone with a great sense of humor. The bugle call he sounded was the British Army "Alarm" calling troops to arms. Well done sir!
I have just watched this all the way through and have to say congratulations to Nordhavn 26 years later for a wonderful experience for their owners , no doubt back then this was a very big undertaking , remember this was a time the first ever iPhone wasn’t even an idea , it was still three years away , the internet wasn’t really a common place thing and public access to GPS was in its infancy . So you can say this was truly an adventure and was the launch pad for the global phenomena of small explorer yachts . Whether your a nordhavn fan or not there’s no denying their huge influence in private yacht exploration as it has become today.
The narration and corny anecdotes are hilarious. The steady cadence of story telling, reminds me of the old Walt Disney and Mutual of Omaha "Wild Kingdom" episodes from the early 70's. For me, there's been nothing better than a life spent on the water.
A most fascinating story of people doing what others (like myself) only dreamed of when we were young. Congrats to you! Recall the crossing on the Bremen in the beginning of Dec. 1960 (windforce 12) and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. But YOU made it!!!!!
What an adventure! Great documentary, thoroughly enjoyed how the fleet was like a big team and everyone supported each other. Watching this from Ottawa Canada
Is an excellent vedio...i love it so much. I used to be a fishermen for 4 years after my high school. Then went to marine college, sailing till the age of 40 finally as Chief engineer.....working ashore and finally own a small ship management and project management company. Now 64...still dream to have a 50 footer fishing boat like what you guy had. However, till today i havent make it any closer....the dream still going on.
This must be from 2004... looks like 480p video. 6 week trip, 20 days at sea in fairly small boats... Love the yachts... Nordavn makes good boats capable of long range.
