It's just before one in the morning at a rest stop in northern Ontario, and Gord and Jackie McAllister are asleep in their RV, on a road trip they'd been planning for months. Someone knocks on the door. He says he's a police officer. He says they need to move their vehicle.
Nothing about that sentence is true. What happens in the next few minutes turns into one of the coldest unsolved cases in Canadian history, one a suspect has never been formally charged for, to this day.
That's one of three stories tonight. Three decades apart, three rest stops, and three strangers who weren't who they claimed to be, or in one case, who were exactly that, which somehow made it worse. The FBI has linked at least eight hundred and fifty murders to America's highway system since it started actively tracking the pattern. Roughly one in four remain unsolved.
