Growing up as a kid in the 70's and 80's, I remember my Mother telling me to never allow myself to be hypnotized. I took that advice to heart.

I went to nphs with Marcus, Carly and Dr kenny. I'll never forget this and the impact the principal had on our community and the death of Marcus. Hearing ballen, my all time favorite YouTuber share his story shook me to my core.
Thank you for giving Marcus and Carly the recognition they deserved.

Mr. Kenney was my band director at Lemon Bay HS before working at North Port HS. He had a god-complex back then in the early 90s and it’s so sad to see how his actions led to the deaths of three innocent children. He was told by the school board to cease his hypnosis sessions but did not comply, and then took no responsibility.

Holy crap, NPHS was my high school. I’ll never forget all this happening in real time, it was a really devastating year just tragedy after tragedy. It’s crazy how over a decade later this is starting to really be talked about.

It's not too often you hear a happy ending to a Mr. Ballen story, but the 2nd story warmed my heart. Don't feel terrible, guy, you took the trash out, that's all. The shart stain won't be missed.

That was more than hypnosis 😢.... I had a friend who thought they were being helped by hypnosis, she later found out through tapes that were discovered that the therapist was drugging and taking advantage of patients and telling them they were in deep hypnosis, several of these kids started having flashbacks of the abuse and didn't understand what was happening, we attended 3 funerals in 9 months time, all kids under 18, all self inflicted exits,....all the therapist received was a fine, his license revoked and 3 months probation...that's it ..3 months probation for 3 young lives taken.

I believe Mr Kenny only had the best of intentions, but as the expression says, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions"

My boyfriend went to this high school with this principal. He thankfully didn’t ever have any reason to have a private meeting with him. It’s crazy. He helped put together the documentary about it actually. This was in my town but I went to another high school and I remember all of this thinking that school just genuinely had so much weird stuff going on all the time. Bad vibes all around!

45 years ago, I took a college class as one of my electives. On hypnosis. The instructor repeatedly said this was teaching ABOUT hypnosis, not HOW to hypnotize. But we learned step by step how to hypnotize people. I only hypnotized 2 friends around that time. We all knew we were going to try this. They knew. Almost daily being told "educational purposes only". I ended up with a Master degree in psychology. That class was a student favorite. So very easy to take and learn.

I am proud of this blind soft spoken kid!

hypnotism was the first thing i thought of when you described the accident. we fooled around with hypnotism and post hypnotic suggestion in the 60’s when i was in high school. it was surprisingly easy to hypnotize some people. we realized pretty quickly that it was potentially very dangerous and we stopped doing it before anyone got hurt. thank god. this story is terrifying to me.

My good friend went tonic-clonic while he was driving, he was wedging his body between the seat and the gas pedal and jerking the wheel. His brother and I immediately took off our seat belts and dove onto him. I steered from the backseat while his brother jammed the car into neutral and pressed the brake with his hand. We made it to the shoulder and he redlined the car for another minute or two before he came too. It sucks even more because now his epilepsy medication makes him numb and he's usually angry.
