1. Ask "What's Next?" Not "Why?" (The Meta Model)
The Problem with "Why": Asking "Why" only helps you find the cause of a problem (e.g., "Why am I sad?"). It paralyzes you because it doesn't give you any direction for action.
The Solution: The Meta Model teaches you to ask future-focused, action-oriented questions like "What do you want to feel instead?" and "What's next?". This shifts your brain instantly from a stuck, diagnostic state to a resourceful, planning state.
2. Change Bad Feelings with Neurological Reprogramming
The Technique: You can quickly interrupt the neurological pattern of a negative memory or phobia (like the fear of escalators).
Actionable Step (Submodalities): Take the picture of the memory and literally change its visual qualities (its submodalities) in your mind: shrink it down, turn it black and white, turn it backwards, or put a border around it. This transforms it from a powerful emotional memory to a neutral, constructed image, removing its kinesthetic (feeling) effect.
3. Desire and Anticipation are the Engines of Change
The Missing Link: A simple positive statement or vision is not enough. Your neurology is driven forward by desire—the "wanting".
The Motivation Strategy: Successful people don't focus on overcoming the difficulty of the task; they focus on the intense good feeling of the final completion. You must anticipate the success so strongly that the good feeling pulls you toward the goal.
4. You Must Rehearse Success and Plan for It
Stop Rehearsing Failure: Unsuccessful people (like the baseball pitcher example) unconsciously rehearse their worst day or their mistakes over and over.
Be the Designer: You must become the active designer of your life by thinking on purpose. Successful people actively rehearse success and plan for the steps that lead to it, using their imagination to build a compelling target.
5. When You Feel Stuck, Choose a New Direction
The Stuck State: Feeling "stuck" is a signal that your mind (a "colony of cells") is conflicted and not working together.
The Way Out: There are only a few ways to feel stuck (clockwise, counter-clockwise, etc.). You are always in control of the direction. The key is to immediately stop poking the water (stop dwelling on the problem) and instead make a plan for what to do next.
