Let's delve into the history of Sakai City, Osaka's second-largest city. From the Heian period, its port thrived, and from the Nanboku-cho period to the Sengoku period, it flourished as a free trade city and commercial center. Supported by this economic power, the city produced the tea ceremony master Sen no Rikyu, and has continued to produce many cultural figures to this day.

In the Meiji era, railway construction progressed, forming a major artery of the Hanshin-Wa region, and the city experienced significant economic development at the foot of Osaka, a major consumer center.

Although it suffered immense damage in the Sakai air raids, the Kanaoka housing complex, the first in Japan by the Japan Housing Corporation, was built afterward, and the Senboku New Town was also completed.
