Sunlight offers a water tightness guarantee with the purchase of a new motorhome. However, to maintain this guarantee, you have to have your vehicle inspected annually at an authorized dealer. This service, of course, is not free. The cost has increased every year. Most recently, we paid €125 for this service. We sometimes considered skipping the inspection and saving the money. Ultimately, we always went to our trusted dealer. Thankfully! If you miss even one inspection, the guarantee becomes void. This year, it was discovered that the flap on the toilet compartment was leaking and the frame needed to be replaced. For this, we had to drive to the dealer in Ilmenau. The town is about 30 minutes from Erfurt. We had our appointment at the workshop on September 7th. In addition, our cruise control and the warning signal for the extended step were no longer working. We had these repaired at the same time. The whole thing was supposed to take three hours. We used this time to explore the town of Ilmenau again and get a feel for the official campervan site. In this beautiful little town, known for its technical university and Goethe's numerous visits, there's a lot of construction going on at the moment. Nevertheless, it's worth stopping there. For overnight stays, you'll find a simple but spacious spot on the outskirts of town. You'll need to be self-sufficient here, as there's no electricity. Overnight stays are free. There are no waste disposal facilities at the site itself, but you can use one in a residential area for a fee. The station is only a few hundred meters from the parking area. Ilmenau is definitely suitable as a stopover. Those who want to follow in Goethe's footsteps should perhaps plan to stay an extra night or two.
