The topography really looks like there was a massive landslide or landslides in the past…..

No adventure is ever wasted, whether or not it yields an expected outcome. Thank you for taking us along on this excursion!

It’s amazing to see potsherds surviving on the top of the ground, after so many generations. Makes you wonder how many are buried just beneath the surface.

12:39 Chaco Lino Gray, early, probably 800-900 AD. Very utilitarian (no decoration, rough, unpainted), so likely, it was a storage jar. AMAZING FIND, JEFF🎉

I love your hikes - whether amazing finds or simple pleasure, I'm here for the journey.  Thanks.

we immensely enjoy seeing historic artifacts, leaving them in place and respecting the peoples who came this way.  I cannot help but think of the dismay of the people who may have dropped their precious bowls or pots in this place, then moved on to camp and work on making another.  Thank you for sharing your observations

Do you think the trail or road could have been covered by a landslide at some point?  There seems to be a lot of debris in that spot.

It is astounding how ancient people moved so much dirt to make mounds, roads, raised temples.

Still awesome enjoyable!  Thanks Jeff!

It's a bummer that you didn't have your drone with you. Very interesting nonetheless.

If you are where I think you are, there are moqui steps coming down from the top way over to the right. There appears to be a lot of exposure initially, from where you stopped, then another crack up to the steps. The road continues at the top, down through the canyon. I hiked up the canyon a few weeks ago, then a few days later drove the road to see it from the bottom. I spotted the steps using binoculars, then got some photos with a big zoom. Haven’t looked at them yet. I was NOT going climbing, glad you did!

Remember, the puebloans and Fremont people were skilled ladder builders. Add this to the picture and a lot of puzzle pieces can be filled in.

Jeff. Every walk with is an amazing adventure.  Thanks for taking us along. Love these adventures with you.

I think one should always keep in mind that the landscape can have have changed- either through gradual erosion from weathering or more sudden loss from flood and storm events causing rockslides and the like. That we might be missing pieces in what we see today's landscape. The older the road, the more likely that the landscape has changed around it.

I would be curious to see if there was any hint of a continuation of the road above those cliffs. Because, if so, then we can safely assume that there was a pathway up that is now gone. If not, I'd look to see if the continuation was nearby at a slightly different point and the pathway up might be not quite here, and it is the road at the bottom which might have become obscured by rockfall.

Because, as you have clearly shown not only did they put effort into making a road, but it was used as evidenced by all the pottery. So unlikely to be a dead end. It had to go somewhere. Just my thoughts...

Awesome presentatin Jeff. Right at the start assertive, confident, specific and great material with updates on your equipment. Good stuff, Jeff. Way more enjoyable now spending time learning from your hard work!

3:47  Black-On-White Ware traditional Chaco-cibolan pottery, circa 900 AD!😮😮😮

Hey Jeff thanks again for Sharing this Story 🙏 I appreciate you taking Us along, it's so awesome that people travel there so long ago , and you are showing us !! 👍😁👍💯💯

Judging by all the flat faced rocks, it's probably a rock quarry ?

It might be time to change the  title of your channel to trek follower. So proud of how you learn, grow and stay humble. I always feel a spiritual connection between you and the ancient civilizations you keep alive. I really get emotional 💖

Chacoian logging roads from timber sites to their outlaying stops, sliding down canyons. You’ve reversed engineered their routes! Forested timber sites were far away from the Chacoian main site, so straight roads would lead there. Something I saw about those timber sites gave me the above information/idea. What’s amazing is your grit and tenacity to go to far distant places to investigate. Certainly the pottery shards are evidence and even the steps you found, however, that might’ve been used.
