The GM II held the line for the Federation. It did its job until more funding was available so it was the most reliable suit avaliable

At least the GM 2 has better based armaments than the Genoace😂 Pretty sure the GM 2’s beam sabers and beam rifles, have better chances of damaging or destroying a Gafran

The GM 2 is a decent mobile suit however it was lacking during the gryps conflict. Although most suits that weren't built during the gryps conflict performed not that well too. When you are in peacetime and your budget gets tightened, you focus on cost efficiency which creates a mobile suit that can handle OYW clunkers, but not suited to the rapidly advancing mobile suit technology during the gryps conflict.

char just looked at that one GM II and it exploded, these things got wrecked so hard in just about every appearance

The GM II is the definition of a stopgap machine in the same way the M3 Lee, was for the US army during WW2 holding the line until the newer M4 Sherman came along to replace them

Yay! One of my favorite GMs of the entire GM line😅

I can't remember where I heard it, but apparently the GM 2's reactor was so reliable, that decades later, it was used to power homesteads on Mars.

Machine did its job and there was no reason to have an arms race yet. In GBO2 it was very useful as a general suit especially when its armed with the harpoon gun.

The GM II is a good Mobile Suits considering it is a successor to the regular GM, and like the original GM it reliable and had several upgrades that made it more than capable of handling Zeon Remnants or Axis Zeon Mobile Suits. Plus the Federation always just made GM its standard and that meant that repairs and maintenance were easy to keep up.

Been loving this channel and the smaller videos like this. I love lore videos but sometimes when I’m doing dishes or folding laundry a 10 minute video is just the best.  Love the GNX videos you made to. Glad I found you!

I'd rate the GM II higher in terms of versatility. While there is a lack of variants, I'd put that down to there not being a pressing tactical need in the way there was during the OYW, but the flexibility of weapon offerings means that one suit design could fulfill pretty much all the missions which they could envision at the time. It does struggle when going up against more modern or highly specialised MS, but that just reflects upon how swiftly technology progressed in the immediate run-up to and during the Gryps War.

I think of the GM II less as a mobile suit, and more as a weapon platform for its beam weapon. In that regard, it has passable performance while being cost effective. It is designed to be a problem that has to be taken seriously and solved, since failing to do so lets a powerful beam weapon shoot up your bases. Even if aces can dance around them, the aces still didn't want to take a hit on the chin from those improved beam weapons

The Feddie approach to war is much like a school test with a time limit. Most of the problems might not be hard, but there are many of them. This forces the enemy to prioritize the questions they can easily handle within the time limit. Ideally, the enemy ends up getting 50 pt out of 75 on the multiple choice questions (the GM II), before they realize they haven't even started on the essay question (some variant of a gundam) that is worth the other 25 pts on the test. They hope to wear you down enough that one strong blow will make you fail.

The Titans test team also refit a Rgm-79C to the R spec as the GM C High mobility type when they were testing it for approval to adopt it along side the prototype Hi-zack YRMS-106. The Sniper III was basically the CR with the Hi-zack backpack letting it use the cannon and one test used a prototype of the Ewac Zack dish

The GM 2 is a case where the period it was intended for really shows: just after the One Year War. It was built to handle things up to the Gelgoog(and can probably hold its own against those depending on pilot), but it fell off INCREDIBLY hard once the Gryps conflict rolled around, being unable to catch up to more recent Mobile Suits.

I think I've found my favorite channel

In my opinion, I feel that the GM II's reliability depends heavily on when you use it and where. In the Gryps War and much later, it's nothing more than a museum piece that's earned it's retirement but throw it into say, the OYW and anything before Gryps, you'll have a very reliable machine that's not only cheap but cost effective and easily replaced as well.

Quantity has a quality of its own

The Sniper 3 is based on an upgraded GM Kai

6:25 There is also a non-canon custom version of GM II that appears in Tyrant Sword of Neofallia.
