In " Mower Shop On Haunted Hill", I give you an update on my brand new Toro MyRide zero turn I bought (see my other video on when I purchased it) and after only half a dozen mows the darn thing is LEAKING! This isn't an easy fix and you better believe I'm gonna file it under warranty. What SHOULD be a simple repair turns out to be a NIGHTMARE.

I have mowed my 3 acres with a 1986 Toro Groundsmaster for 30+ years. Complete with a 62 inch deck (replaced once) and Onan 223G engine (also replaced once). It will zip around trees, almost like a zero turn. I love it. I'm 73 so it's a contest for me or Toro to be last man standing.

It's cheaper and faster to machine a tapered shaft. It goes together faster with no spline or key alignment. Air chisel with a blunt tip to vibrate it loose on the back. while it's under tension. I would have tried a little bit of heat.

Goingf backwards on any bolt before tightening them is ALWAYS a good idea

it is not a flywheel Taryle and your about to find out why they want you to take the whole transmision apart to change the seal. This is going to be a genuinly interesting adventure. I just hope Taryl is man enough to admit he was wrong, when things go south

Thats what I like about Hydro-Gear they aren't really that hard to work on plus Hydro-gear allows you access to all their manuals.

My 1996 Craftsman 42in lawn tractor has the Hydro-Gear 310-0500 transmission. The left axle seal began leaking at some point and by 2015 it had gotten so bad that I was having to add oil (it uses 20W50 motor oil) every few uses or the drive would slip. Finally in 2020 during Covid I completely rebuilt the entire tractor and I disassembled the Hydro-Gear to replace the axle seals. On that unit the axle seals are actually inside the main housing so I did have the split the housing to get to them. No issues since (doesnt leak a drop).

Morse taper maybe? Extremely difficult to remove. Some dental implants use morse taper to hold on the attachment parts. This might explain the excessive torque. Once seated, hard to remove!
