How does a modern expressway fit into a mountain gorge with so little room for a road? Join this immersive 4K drive from Wudu East Toll Station to Xiejiaba Parking Area on China’s G75 Lanhai Expressway. Across 96.9 km of southern Gansu, bridges and tunnels carry the highway through steep mountains and narrow river valleys.

Longnan lies where the Tibetan Plateau, Loess Plateau and Qinling–Daba mountain region meet. This is Gansu’s mountainous southern landscape: layered ridges, deeply cut valleys and small pockets of flatter land beside rivers. The route belongs to the Min River–Bailong River corridor in the Yangtze basin. This Min River is in Gansu and is a tributary of the Bailong River.

The journey includes an important part of the Longnan section of the Weiwu Expressway, incorporated into G75. Built as a four-lane divided expressway with a design speed of 80 km/h, it forms a major connection between northwestern and southwestern China. Bridges and tunnels account for 92.5% of the Guanting–Shawan section, a particularly striking engineering corridor. That figure applies to this specific section, not the entire 96.9 km drive.

Around Shawan, Lianghekou and the Huama Shenshu tunnel area, the road repeatedly crosses valleys and passes through mountains. Fractured rock, faults, landslides and debris flows made construction challenging. The driving experience follows the rhythm of these structures: enclosed tunnels, changing light and openings onto the surrounding mountain landscape.

Wudu, at the beginning of the journey, developed along the Bailong River valley and is known for Sichuan pepper and olive cultivation. Nearby Wanxiang Cave represents the area’s natural limestone-cave scenery. Xiejiaba, the destination, is in Ganjiangtou Township, Tanchang County, where settlements and agriculture occupy the Min River valley.

The wider Tanchang area includes Guan’egou and Eman Valley, known for gorges, lakes, forests and waterfalls. Its cultural background also includes the ancient Tanchang kingdom, Qiang heritage and Tibetan traditions. These are regional points of interest; this video stays on the expressway and does not include visits inside those attractions.
