What anime do you wanna see in Anime Rewind 2026? Let me know by replying to this comment!
The rules are:
1. It has to have come out in 2026.
2. Anime only. No anime inspired western animation, no Aeni (Korean Animation) or Donghua (Chinese Animation). That said, works based on non-Japanese properties are allowed so long as they are made by a Japanese studio (something like Solo Leveling, for example.)
I'm also open to hearing any recommendations for things that happened within the anime community, memes, etc.
Thank you guys so much! I'm looking forward to hearing your guys recommendations!
The filler episodes in Classic Naruto is the only reason i EVER cared about any of the Konona 11 outside Team 7, because its the only place they ever had time to shine as characters and get any spotlight
Ironically the only filler they seem to be making nowadays are the filler that fans UNIVERSALLY DESPISE the most: recap/clip show episodes. Unless you’re the Ember Island Players episode from Avatar, they never really work
If I'm being honest, I actually didn't really mind filler all that much. It was always so exciting just to be able to keep watching my favorite anime for as long as it kept running and not ending anytime soon.
I think something like Juju Stroll is a good middle ground where you see the characters in their natural state and it's a fun bonus to the episode without breaking the flow of the story.
the best filler arc is g8 in one piece because it inhances the emotional depth of water 7. throughout g8 we are shown that the straw hats would rather risk themselves to get back the merry rather then just take a navy ship, which really shows how much they have bonded with merry
One thing that I think a lot of people took for granted about filler is how it gave us a few episodes of levity before the major plot took place, where other characters are given a chance to be fleshed out, as well as adapting on already established concepts. But with remakes that remain more faithful to the manga, such as Sailor Moon or Shaman King, the story feels rushed, most of the main cast only getting one focus episode every arc, and a lot of moments that made them stand out from the original are completely cut, including anime original characters.
Some of my favorite filler is Gohan's time in the wilderness when he had to survive before Piccolo trained him. It was amazing seeing Gohan experience being on his own and going on adventures like his dad did.
I generally like filler when it tells us more about the characters or just them doing hilarious stuff that we usually don't see in canon, like Utakata's story, Itachi’s, kakashi’s backstory are all fleshed out more in fillers and we get to see kakashi’s face in a filler . It make them feel more real. But there should be a time and place for fillers, dropping fillers right in the middle of the final was frustrating and annoying and whole filler arcs about characters we do not even know or care about should not be done.
I remember feeling this way about my hero academia, I think that series would have benefited from a bunch of mini arcs with just different combinations of heroes going on missions
The problem with filler isn't filler itself. It's when it becomes long as an entire season or placed in a middle of an ongoing story. That being said, I think a type of filler I think anime needs it's small one off adventures in between big event. Ykw, something that exist to developed characters or give some spotlight to under utilize ones. I think the best example of doing that, and I realize how ironic that is Dragon Ball Z. YES, I KNOW, it's usage of filler is it's own can of worms, were 5 minutes becomes five episodes. But when you think about anime original plots. The anime actually gave us a lot of new materials for it's cast. Like, what Yamcha and Tien were doing during Sayan Saga. Or Gohan's adventures during his training that established why fighting Sayans was important. They actually remembered Launch, and making other dead fighters go to Kami for trying was a brilliant way to keep them around, and gave them one fight scene with Ginyu Force. And please, you can't deny the car episode, isn't one of the most iconic moments in the show. Kai, maybe the most streamlined version of the anime, and you can watch if you want a gist of the story, but man, loosing those one off adventures also made it feel more "water down" in a way.
I also didn't know about filler watching Naruto, but anyone would notice that something was wrong. I think I watched up to episode 150 when I finally had access to internet and did some digging and knew the whole deal surrounding that 100 episodes of nonstop filler.
But I also think they could have done better, it was an opportunity to explore the world
Most modern (especially Shonen) anime have a breakneck pacing, where everything is there to advance the plot. What we need are well thought-out slow, introspective character focused moments that make us fall in love with the characters and the world even more (thus why I love FGO Babylonia so much). If that's what filler is, then yes, we NEED it.
I genuinely miss filler episodes because they were original content where you couldn't be spoiled by manga nerds. Yes they ahd no relevance to the story but it was still fun to watch
Fillers were a fun time back in the early 2000s. Sailor Moon's and DBZ's always came at just the right time, after a big saga so it always felt like more of a breather until the next big saga than a time waster. Naruto and Bleach had the worse implementations of fillers because they came during the middle of an arc, interrupting the flow. I remember being really confused when Zanpakuto Unknown Tales filler arc started right in the middle of the Hueco Mundo canon arc and annoyed, too.
