As someone who has played both football and rugby, hockey is rougher than all of them

As an immigrant from Austria, my dad landed in Montreal. If he hadn't , I would never have been a life long Calgary Flames fan as he took his new found sports love west. Montreal and Toronto have long histories. Personally a battle of Alberta (Calgary & Edmonton) is a never miss. I do love Tampa Bay & Florida games as well. And I watch Montreal for my dad as he used to in the 80's with 13 channels, hunch in front of his stereo with his headphones on listening tov French CBC broadcasting a play by play of a Montreal Canadiens game, while the ret of us were glued to the TV for the Flames.

Getting a clean (not dirty-intent to injure) hip check just done right is referred to as a "Dion", after player Dion Pheneuff (one of my fav players when he was on the Calgary Flames).

NHL - A mix of figure skating and MMA. The most brutal game on earth. Once you have possession of the puck, you are a target. You are allowed to follow through with the hit if the other guy had the puck and just passed it. If someone takes out your teammate, you WILL retaliate on his behalf. You DO NOT hit someone who is down. Doing so will paint a target on your back for the rest of the season. The reason for all this? The Stanley Cup. There is only one in existence, its the oldest trophy in sports history. This year's champs will literally take the Stanley Cup from last year's champs.

If you are on the puck ( near ), in control or just released it ( a pass ) you are open to a hit.
So these guys looking at feet, not the play ( surroundings ) getting to pretty with themselves BOOM !!!

Playoffs start mid April, best of seven's ( 16 teams )... this is when blood & guts get spilled, played through.
Find a match up between rivals....ENJOY !!!
From west coast Canada, peace.
GO BRUINS GO !!! ( BOSTON ).
