OP did a lot more polite talking than I would have. I would have kept repeating. You issued an ultimatum. I accepted your terms. Congratulations, you got exactly what you asked for.

People don't like smaller they like comfortable.Why didn't the mother and daughter rent a place together? It's very uncomfortable when any one moves into your home , family or not.A lot of adjustments have to be made.People always know what others should do until it happens to them

This is what happens when people are 100% sure nothing they do will be answered with violence.

When you act like a doormat, and/or human butt wipe, and then get treated as such, the only person to blame is yourself.

I speak from much experience, sadly.

He should have got her straight the first time she disrespected him. The moment any woman threatens your marriage if you don’t comply to her demands it is time to divorce her immediately. If a woman values you she would never jeopardize your relationship.

He should've said have a safe trip. I'll see you when you get back.

What he should have done is move into the spare room for the foreseeable future. Let the mooching in laws sleep in their cars.

Another stupid, controlling wife!  OP's actions were totally logical.

The problem was twofold. First, the absolute lack of respect. A spouse should NEVER let anyone move in without an explicit “yes” from their partner. Circumstances don’t matter. That’s so disrespectful it boggles my mind. Second, trust isn’t just broken - it’s shattered. She broke her word, tried manipulation to force OP’s agreement, and even lied about his consent.

I don’t think OP moved too fast. I’d have gone farther, and told them all no one was moving in, or there’d be Hell to pay.

We all need to set boundaries with the people in our lives. I don't think divorce was the answer.
