My cousin and uncle saw me ride (i used to live in colorado and had easily 100 days a year). I told them that "i was alright" at snowboarding. And when they saw me, they were amazed. They said i downplayed my skills a lot. And i told them that to them, im advanced, but to me, there are people who are FAR beyond me. They really didnt get it. But living in colorado or any place that has a mountain really shows the levels of skill. Especially when it comes to tree riding/big drops. Funny thing is, you can catch dudes who drop those 60 footers on the gondi and gas them up and they tell you the same thing, "im not that good dude, im alright"... which blows my mind lol. The levels of skill in this sport is insane.

Everybody has their own definition of what level they are. Some say you have to do a 720 before you are advanced. But that would mean some of the biggest freeriders aren't advanced riders.
On the other hand, some streetriders aren't really good at speed and deep terrain, but what does that mean? They can do something a freerider can't do.

Someone once told me that the best snowboarder is the one that has the most fun. I like that idea.

I never go the same resort on holiday. From small ones near my city, to the Alps, Dolomites and mistly from December to late April you can find so many conditions it will make you a well rounded rider. So i absolutely agree TB

I always considered advanced and expert 2 different categories

I’d consider myself an advanced intermediate, I’m 55 and been boarding 27 years, I used to ride park and pipe but mostly now cane the groomers at full speed as well as off piste when conditions are good in the alps. It’s all about having fun with the boys (old men) now!😂

Holy crap, a 2 mile green run? I wish I had access to this! The one I'm running right now is only like half a mile top to bottom, very short. It feel like the bunny hill to me now which was like, 100 feet long at most.

Here for the gear..bought this jacket, the goggles, and the night grove jacket! Exceptional quality

Always enjoy hearing your knowledge!
Been snowboarding nearly 30 years but only ever get to ride a few times each season as i live 6 hours away from most resorts. Even in my late 40's im still progressing my skills every new season and enjoy riding my best ever on each new trip. Totally an advanced intermediate rider, and doubt I'll ever see myself as an expert with my limited ride time, but am still confident to hit nearly any terrain these days minus any serious park riding. Have always been a true weekend warrior and love to ride from first chair to last, (or at least as long as my ankles can hold out. Lol )
But i love the fact that even though i might go 9-10 months between the last ride of one season to the 1st ride of the next, i can strap in and bomb the first run like i never took a break, easier than riding a bike these days.
You're the best Tommie, 😎🤙

The fact that he was so casual at 18:06 while I’m here like oh sh!t!

Your point of going to different resorts is spot on. My son and I would pick a different area every year, Tahoe, Summit County, Utah etc. and we would hit every resort in those areas so we were exposed to different terrain and snow quality which made us much better.

Runs of 2.5 miles!! I can’t imagine, that would be amazing to learn on. The average run here in Southern Ontario (where I’m learning) is 0.5-1 km (0.3-0.6 miles) if you’re lucky 😂😂😂
Thanks so much for this and all your videos! I started learning mid- January with a beginner lesson, and with the help of your videos, I’m ending the season on the blues and trying some moguls!

I love the videos dude. New resort in Wisconsin and I’ve gotten onto some blue runs that are pretty steep. I also did several green runs to work on my switch riding and some 360s.
Your videos have taught me a lot and I wouldn’t have gotten as far in so few runs without your tips and insights.

UPDATE I’m riding black diamonds now!! 1 week of learning!

Tommie, I just started Snowboarding this season (longboarding is the only thing I knew prior). I picked up some Burton Step-Ons after trying a rental. I practiced at Mt Holly (Michigan) twice and got my Toe Edge turns down thanks to you! Hitting blues on my 4th day of YouTube learning. I'll be hitting Colorado in March dude!!

Thanks for everything.

7:10 - Love the reverse heel side stop. 🙂

So I wanted to comment on how the title of the video had 3 levels. When you get to advanced you also use the expert term and its hard to tell if you consider them the same level or different.

I consider them different levels. And would consider myself an advanced rider but definitely not an expert.

This year I'm 48 and the past few years I haven't gone out much. But this year I'm trying to change that. I'm working to improve my skills is certain disciplines but as you state I won't ever have the time to become an expert. Some things I now consider even to risky to learn. And I'm perfectly happy with that.

I do like your content!

Hey Tommy - I noticed your pants are tucked into your boots. Can you explain why?

Thank you for this. I find your videos accessible and very low-pressure. I finally got myself on my toes thanks to your videos. Thank you!

I was an intermediate snowboarder. After a hard fall ended up in an ER, I’m now a beginner once again. Lolz

I wish I had have known  this advice back in the early 2000's, it would have been a great help instead of teaching yourself. Great tips TB 🤟👍

Was totally waiting for you to scorpion 😅
