Why College Hitters Train Opposite Field Before They Train Pull Side Power
Most hitters are taught to pull the baseball.
Elite hitters learn to control it first.
In today’s session inside the FIVETOOLTRAINING Development Center, we work with two college baseball players on one of the most important skills in high-level hitting: creating true opposite-field backspin while eliminating the pull-side hook.
This wasn’t a “take it the other way” approach.
The goal was to build movement patterns that allow hitters to stay through the baseball longer, control direction, and become adjustable against both velocity and off-speed pitching.
In this session we cover:
• Lower-half direction
• Resistance band movement training
• Slide board adjustability drills
• Pre-setting direction before movement
• Bat path refinement
• Opposite-field backspin
• Eliminating pull-side topspin
Every drill has one purpose:
Create a swing that transfers to the game—not just the batting cage.
If you’re serious about becoming a better hitter, subscribe for weekly player development sessions, coaching breakdowns, and behind-the-scenes access inside the FIVETOOLTRAINING Development Center.
