Symptoms of Avoidant Personality Disorder include social inhibition, a lack of pleasure in activities, a need to be well liked, anxiety about saying or doing the wrong thing, and anxiety in social situations. They are people pleasers and they avoid conflicts. They avoid interaction in work settings and avoid intimate relationships. They avoid making decisions and also avoid situations due to fear of rejection. They also avoid social situations or events and are easily hurt by criticism or disapproval. They are extremely self-consciousness and there's a failure to initiate social contact. Generally, they portray fearful and tense demeanor. These patients experience feelings of inadequacy, and are hypersensitive to negative evaluation. They have lack of assertiveness and lack of trust in others. They have low self-esteem and no close friends or social network. They tend to remain in self-isolation. They misinterpret neutral situations as negative and they are unwilling to take risks or try new things. They identify as socially inept or inferior and are always vigilant for signs of disapproval or rejection.
Avoidant personality disorder can only be diagnosed by a trained mental health professional based on criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). It is typically diagnosed in adults, as children's personalities are still evolving and behaviors such as shyness can be normal experiences in childhood that are later outgrown. The causes of avoidant personality disorder are thought to involve genetic, biological, environmental, social, and psychological factors. Some factors that can play a part in the development of the condition include emotional abuse, ridicule, criticism, lack of affection, and rejection by peers. खुद में खोए रहने और दूसरों को नजरअंदाज करने की बीमारी है अवोईडैंट पर्सनालिटी डिसऑर्डर।
Unfortunately, the outlook for people with avoidant personality disorder who do not seek treatment is not good. Typically, they become self-isolated and use avoidance as their only coping mechanism. Talk therapy for avoidant personality disorder may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and schema therapy. CBT helps people learn how to change unhelpful thinking patterns. If a person has other related disorders such as depression or anxiety, medication may be prescribed to help with those symptoms.
One of the first steps in improving quality of life with avoidant personality disorder is to recognize the signs. Friends and family should be involved in the therapy. Self-care is also essential. Without professional treatment such as talk therapy, it is unlikely that the symptoms will improve.
