I like how Metal Sonic is having an existential crisis and somehow acting Human, this makes it easier to connect with the audience how Metal truly feels.

He was Ivo Robotnik's Ultimate Creation, someone who even beat his new replacement who was supposed to be more powerful than him, turns out Robotnik just decided to forget it and make Mecha Sonic instead.

Now it leaves Metal with questions, like what must an AI do when they can no longer complete their directive, when the one he's meant to serve leaves him. What is Metal with his Directive?

I wasn't expecting much I will be honest, but this is much better than I anticipated.
Metal Sonic is definitely one of those characters where true change and growth comes slowly. So far no ones broken character to speedun his development, and that to me is the mark of good writing.
Using Mecha Sonic in the narrative was a clever way of planting small seeds of doubt into Metal.

so this is just the sonic version of what if Cell from DBZ turned good

At first I'm thinking, "Can you imagine what Sonic would say if Tails just casually mentions that he fixed up a Terminator made specifically to murder Sonic and let him loose?"
But then I thought about it for an extra couple of seconds, and I realized the answer is, "Oh, cool!"
Sonic is just that kind of mad lad.

I think at this point if Metal Sonic stays as an Eggman sidekick he'll be wasted potential. They should build on his motivation to become more than just 'metal sonic' from sonic heroes

Mecha sonic currently is a good guy, hes finally free from Eggman's Control, as a scrapnik

Funny thing is Mecha Sonic is technically Metal Sonics prototype that's power core was never fully finished
