Please make “Cool guns with Ian” a regular thing like cartridge talks. And Mark please bring back lead balloons

“I’m here for the intro.” Adds to cart immediately

1. Shirts are a cool idea
2. 338 Federal needs waaaaay more love
3. Straight pulls are cool

As someone who's been wearing the same T shirts for the last 10 years, I would buy a vortex nation shirt that says "It depends"

Just a little fact the Swiss had multiple straight pull rifles going back to the 1880s. One of the inventers of the Schmidt Rubin also invented jacketed pointed bullets.

Great episode.  Ross rifle, 1903, Canada.

So when are we finally going to  get a cartridge talk on the 7.5 Swiss? Been asking on and off for years.

I bought a BLASER R93 LRS 308 WIN and a BLASER R93 LRS 338 LAPUA back in the late 90's. They're the most accurate rifles I own. They have no receiver in the conventional sense, but just stock, barrel, and bolt.

I have a k31. Hornady used ppu brass and loaded a soft point. The best ammo was the Swiss surplus gp11, but it has really dried up. It was super high quality and the sights were very well calibrated for the load. Great rifle.  The Swiss were issued the rifles and a small quantity of ammo for national defense duty.  The person it was issued to often put a tag under the butt of the rifle.  When the rifles were first imported there were stories of people meeting the former owners.

Straight pulls! I was so happy to see this episode pop up.
My sporter .308 K11 Schmidt-Rubin is one of my favorite rifles

Schmidt Rubin 1889, 1896, 96/11 and 1911/k11 are all "rear" locking pre K31 rifles.  I have a 1911, shoots awesome with 175 Match Kings.  Diopters sights are available through Swiss Products of Kalispell, MT

Love the podcast episode. I wonder when the Beretta BRX1 will get its time in the spotlight?

I'm here for the intros!   The Swiss straight pulls are some of my favorite rifles of all time.  Great podcast topic!

Heym SR30 is one of the best straight pull rifles ever. The handling seems odd at first but it is a fantastic rifle. I have shot Blaser, Steel Action, Merkel, Savage, Liwa, Haenel, Jakele and Strasser but I always come back to the Heym SR30

On the Heym, you can fit a biathlon-style handle, which gives you a much better grip for pulling the bolt back.

The safety on the Heym is excellent when moving through thick brush, as it locks the bolt. Even if it snags on something, you won’t accidentally open the action or lose a round. Kinda critical if your going after European Boar which like to hide in Briar Brush.

Here in Europe, we generally consider rifles that can be de-cocked—like the Heym—to be safer. When the rifle is de-cocked, it is impossible for it to go off if you drop it etc. as the firing pin is NOT under tension

Heym SR-30 was pressure tested too 100,000 psi & didnt flinch. Its super strong

As you said straight pull rifles are common here in Europe and there's more and more manufacturers making them, even few new brands. Some are just a "broken AR" type and some actually really innovative.

Muser 25 is like a poor mans Blaser R8 and you can't find the thing anywhere, they sell out instantly. You have Steel Action with their HS / HM models that run amazingly smooth, you have Jakele K1 with their weird cocking design, you have Haenel Jaeger,  Rossler Titan, you have Merkel Helix with 2:1 action where bolt handle has 1/2 of actual bolt travel and is really really fast. You have Chapuis ROLS that's basically an R8 clone but "better" as they say. You have your R8 and R8 2.0 and probably a lot more I forgot to mention.

I'm surprised no mention of the Fortner action on the Anschutz rifles. Especially with the winter games and biathlon right around the corner!

Is it weird that I listen to the audio version AND watch the video. You guys are awesome.

I was local and I could've brought you guys an Anschutz 1827, too...
