💚 Orcs & Goblins Arcane Journal Review — Nomadic Waaagh, Troll Horde, Troll Magic & More
The Greenskins are back with one of the wildest Arcane Journals yet — and in this video we break down everything the new book brings to the Old World. From the fast‑moving Nomadic Waaagh to the lumbering brutality of the Troll Horde, this supplement adds two wildly different playstyles, new magic, and a pile of kunnin’ (and not‑so‑kunnin’) magic items.
If you’re an Orcs & Goblins player — or just want to understand what these maniacs are bringing to the table — this is your full guide.
⚔️ Nomadic Waaagh — Speed, Mobility, and Mounted Mayhem
The Nomadic Waaagh turns the Greenskins into a fast‑moving, cavalry‑driven force built around:
Wolf riders, boar riders, and mounted bosses
Hit‑and‑run pressure
Board‑wide threat projection
A unique identity that plays nothing like the core list
If you like your Waaagh loud, fast, and unpredictable, this is your flavor.
🧟‍♂️ Troll Horde — Regeneration, Brutality, and Pure Anarchy
The Troll Horde is exactly what it sounds like:
A wall of regenerating monsters led by the biggest, dumbest heroes imaginable.
We cover:
Army‑wide regen synergies
Stupidity management (or lack thereof)
Why this list hits like a truck but needs careful support
How it changes deployment and threat ranges
It’s messy, hilarious, and surprisingly competitive.
🔮 Troll Magic — The Weirdest Lore Yet
Yes, Trolls have magic now.
And yes, it’s exactly as chaotic as you’d expect.
We break down:
The design philosophy behind Troll Magic
How its spells interact with Troll units
Why it’s both risky and incredibly fun
Where it fits in the broader Greenskin magic ecosystem
This is peak Old World energy.
🧿 Magic Items — Kunnin’, Brutal, and Very On‑Brand
The Arcane Journal brings a suite of new magic items that support both new lists:
Mobility boosters for Nomadic Waaagh characters
Regeneration and resilience tools for Troll bosses
A few sneaky Goblin tricks
Some classic Orc smash‑weapons
We highlight the standouts, the traps, and the items that redefine character builds.
🧠Final Verdict
This Arcane Journal gives Orcs & Goblins:
Two fully distinct armies
A new magic lore
A fresh set of items
A massive injection of personality and playstyle variety
It’s one of the most transformative supplements released so far.

When I was a teen, my local Games Workshop hosted “mega battles” alternating between Warhammer Fantasy, 40K and the Lord of the Rings each week—my fellow Longbeards will remember the staff in the red shirts. To accommodate many eager teens and young adults, each player got to control one unit on the table selected from the store’s armies.
To determine which side got the first turn, each side had to yell “waaagh” as loud as they could. The loudest side got the first turn. This garnered many stares from passersby in the mall.
I’m in my 30s now and collect Warriors of Chaos for Warhammer: The Old World. Thank you for reminding me of this fond childhood memory.
