I'm Olivier Delacroix, a journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker.
With "Missing," I invite you to revisit cases that, sometimes for decades, continue to haunt families and raise numerous questions. Stories where the lack of answers has become an ordeal in itself. Because behind every disappearance lies a life, a family… and a truth that we are still searching for.
✨ For this episode, I'm joined by Freddy Broutin, Mathieu's father.
Twenty-two years ago, in Embrun, Mathieu, then 17 years old, disappeared. Since that day, he has never been heard from again.
At the time, Freddy Broutin was a police officer. Yet, when his own son disappeared, he wasn't involved in the investigation as he should have been. According to him, neither he, nor his parents, nor his friends, nor even his teachers were properly questioned, and several leads were not sufficiently explored.
Initially, Mathieu's disappearance was considered primarily as a possible runaway. According to Freddy, this hypothesis quickly steered the search and prevented all other possibilities from being considered.
Twenty-two years later, no answers have emerged to shed light on what happened. Freddy revisits the circumstances of his son's disappearance, the unanswered questions in the investigation, and the unanswered questions that remain to this day.
Convinced that certain elements were not sufficiently examined, he now wants to understand what happened to Mathieu and uncover the truth about his disappearance.
In this episode, we also address the questions this case raises:
✨ What really happened the day Mathieu disappeared?
✨ Did the runaway theory prevent the exploration of other hypotheses?
✨ Why wasn't his father, a police officer, more involved in the search?
✨ Could certain leads have been explored further?
✨ How does one live for 22 years with the disappearance of their child and without answers?
A testimony about absence, doubt, and the quest for truth that, for Freddy Broutin, has never ended.
