When Andy was talking to Red about hope, Red didn't just call hope a pipe dream. He called it a "shitty pipe dream"
When Andy escaped, he escaped through the sewage pipe, A shitty pipe

"Get busy living, or get busy dying" such a great quote from this classic

In 100 years, people will view this film with the same intensity as we did in the past. I believe that it is one of the greatest films ever produced.

Even the pacing of this movie was perfect. The scene where Andy escapes at the end lasts the perfect amount of time: Andy crawls out of the sewer pipe and lands in the water, we get the voiceover from the great Morgan Freeman, '500 yards. That's the length of 5 football fields. Just shy of half a mile.', Andy trudges through the water, he takes off his shirt, and reaches up into the rain - the music swells, and we hear Andy laughing. The climax of the sequence lasts just long enough for us to say, 'Well done, Andy, you made it.', and then we move on. If the SSR were made today, that scene would be dragged out for at least 5 minutes, dulling the emotional impact it had. This movie is timeless.

I love that scene with the record. That look Andy gives the warden when he’s told to turn it off, he’s “ what’s that? Turn it up? You’re the warden “ what a flex

Red was not a con-man, and he NEVER said he was. "There's a con like me in every prison in America..." That's a convict, not a con-man, and red didn't con people. He got locked up for homicide.

One item of symbolism in this movie I’ve never seen anyone mention is the parallel between Jake the raven and Andy.
Brooks takes in Jake as a baby and looks after him. Andy is a first timer and Red takes care of him.
Brooks lets Jake go free before he leaves Shawshank. On the outside he looks for Jake but never finds him. Hopeless on the outside, Brooks dies alone.
Red also watches Andy go free before getting paroled. (Some birds aren’t meant to be caged, their feathers are just too bright)
Unlike Jake, Andy gave Red a way to follow him. Brooks was here. So was Red.
“Here” is the precipice of despair. Brooks jumped off, but Red climbed back down. He found his bird of hope. And thus Red was redeemed from Shawshank.

Its no joke that the name is a huge reason as to why some people avoid watching it. Ive shown the movie to several people who thought it was like a slasher film because of the name.

The Warden is one of my favorite villains of all time. A facade of goodness via his piety, but selfish and cruel day to day. He thinks he’s the good guy, that he’s doing gods work. He’s the worst.

Great video man!!

Red calls himself a 'con,' but that doesn't stand for conman, it's just convict shortened.

My favorite quote from any movie EVER!  "Andy Dufreyne, who crawled through a river of sh*t and came out CLEAN on the other side!"

"hope isn't that different from fear" dude like what?!, that is so profound. I'm gonna think about that for weeks. Subscribed.

Andy didn't escape at the end of he film. He was out of that prison from the very beginning. His body just had to follow his heart.

I remember watching this for the first time when I was 14. I was suicidal and went down a self-harming path. This film reminds me how a great story can be moving for humans and turn me into a cinephile until today. My life was at an extreme rock bottom. I am still had those tendencies today, yet I have my own reason to keep living.

I kept coming back to this film whenever I needed to feel something to would move me.

Until 2 years ago, another turmoil that turned my apathetic approach towards life into a more positive mindset. I am becoming hopeful again. And I saw people around me, got 'institutionalized' by life events, creating their own prison, and I kept reminding myself of what Andy said. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

Get busy living or get busy dying...Indeed.

I will never get tired of watching this Film.

When I was going through a bitter divorce in 1999 and sleeping in a van outside my workplace shop, I had a VCR and this was the only tape I had. I watched it on a loop. Never gets old.

First video I've seen from this channel and won't be my last. Extremely well-written and eloquent script for this video essay. Can't imagine this channel staying at 9k for too long

As someone who’s not a big film guy, this movie blew me away at first, and never gets old, have watched it at least a dozen times. The story is so intriguing

This and Good Will Hunting changed a large amount of my entire outlook on like, everything! Absolutely beautiful.

The ending where Red searches for the package left by Andy, the music, the cinematography, is one of the all time best scenes in cinematic history. The entire film crescendos there, while the meetup of the two friends on the beach after is transcendent.
