In a previous hearing,  this father appeared by Zoom demanding unsupervised parenting time — but the hearing was cut short after he revealed he was in an inpatient facility and began making statements that raised serious concerns.

Now he’s back.

The judge works through the standard custody factors — asking simple questions about parenting, time spent with his child, and day-to-day involvement. But instead of clear answers, his responses drift into unrelated stories, deflections, and repeated attempts to shift blame.

In Michigan, custody decisions are based on the “best interests of the child,” a set of legal factors that evaluate parenting ability, stability, judgment, and each parent’s willingness to support the child’s relationship with the other parent.

As the hearing continues, a pattern starts to form.
