"Lowdown" is one of Boz Scaggs' most iconic songs, released in 1976 as a single from his album *Silk Degrees*. Written by Scaggs, along with David Paich, the song blends elements of jazz, funk, and R&B to create a smooth, laid-back groove that became a defining track of the 1970s. With its catchy, infectious rhythm, "Lowdown" is about a man reflecting on a relationship where he feels misled and taken advantage of, but the lyrics are delivered with an almost detached coolness, adding to the song's allure. The track was a commercial success, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning Scaggs a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song. The production, particularly the distinctive horn section and Paich's contributions on keyboards, helped to elevate the song’s rich, polished sound. "Lowdown" remains a signature hit for Boz Scaggs, praised for its smooth vibe and its seamless blending of pop, soul, and jazz influences.
