The BEST time travel movie of all time.  It’s the gold standard.

The machine itself was also the “star of the show.”  Years ago, Russell Garcia, who did the film’s musical score, told me that he produced the machine’s “sound” by using a variety of musical instruments.  I think that distinctive sound gave the machine added character and believability.

Also, be sure to watch: “The Time Machine: The Journey Back” (1993) where Rod Taylor, Alan Young and Whit Bissell reprise their roles.  Guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes.

I saw this unforgettable and wonderful film in 1961 presented by our Parish as a Holiday treat, and it was for me the perfect treat being a young boy of 14.

Mimieux never lost her beauty, and Rod Taylor was perfect for the part of George. Like Ford and Indiana Jones, I can't imagine anyone else playing the part

The Morlocks Scared The You Know What Outta Me as a young child.

This is one of the top 10 best movies ever made in human history.😊😊😊😅😅😅

I remember seeing George Pal’s War of the Worlds and The Time Machine when I was a kid.  They completely blew me away.  I can’t think of any other movies from that time period that had such an impact.

The cave scene where George fights the Morlocks is the same set used in the Twilight Zone episode, “On Thursday We Leave for Home.”

I'm a Sci-Fi fan. I really enjoyed reading the book "The Time Machine" it was great. The Time Machine was an awesome movie, and it deserved the Academy Award. The three books would take to rebuild civilization are "The Way Things Work" by David Macauley, English Dictionary and The Collected Works of William Shakespeare.

Even in the future, NEVER underestimate the power of a girl that has a flower in her hair.

In the original book, the time traveler was not a hero or even particularly likeable.  He was an emotionally distant scientist.  He had no grand idea of saving mankind.  He time traveled to suit himself.   He was a wealthy man from the British upper class, and he had no intention of giving that up.  Unlike the movie hero, he was not interested in  defeating the morlocks or saving mankind or beginning a new future.  He was just a tourist. He was taking a look around, with the intention of going home again.

In the book,  the Eloi had been bred as livestock for hundreds of years.  The Morlock supplied them with everything they needed:  food,  clothing, etc.  And that affected them mentally.  They were literally animals. When Weena is drowning, no one helps, because none of the Eloi care.  they have no conception of caring for another person, or risking their lives to help another.   It is not malice.  It is mental degeneration.  They are sheep, almost literally.

I thought the version in the movie was far, far better.  This was one of the very best movies of all time.  I loved the  hopeful, uplifting ending.  The Time Traveller could have stayed in his comfortable wealthy life style, but he decided to go back.  Back to Weena, to the Eloi, back to build a new world.  It was wonderful.

I was 12 years old when this came out in 1960. (Yeah, I'm an old fart now.) It literally changed my life. At that young age I had no real concept of fantasy or science fiction. And, I'm a bit ashamed to say, I thought everything in the movies were real. When it was explained to me how The Time Machine effects were done, I was even more impressed and realized I could do it too. So I grew up to be a filmmaker. I was never successful but I had a lot of fun.

I saw this at the driving when it come out i was only little but I loved it bit scary with those men that lived under the caves I quite didn't understand that part, but it was a really good picture and II wanna see it again, I'm in Australia so I want them to put them on tV, please.😊😊😊😊

April 4, 2026 - (dated for context and reference) One of my all time favorite films. I've used the metaphor of the Eloi and the Morlocks in some of my sociology discussions and comments. Watching this video, I have to say that the Morlock "creatures" really don't look that believable, but I guess their were when the film was produced. I did learn something from this video concerning the difference between H.G. Wells' original novel, and the changes made in the film version.👍😊

Where's the FLYING SAUCER I missed?

Time stamp 9:49 "Wells couldn't have predicted nuclear weapons"

Actually H.G. Wells did predict nuclear weapons, though not in The Time Machine. 19 years after publishing The Time Machine, Wells published The World Set Free. In that novel Wells described atomic bombs as weapons that created "a blazing continual explosion," resulting in long-lasting, dangerous radioactive fallout.  Written in 1913 and published in 1914, the book was remarkably accurate, predicting the atomic bomb decades before the Manhattan Project. Reportedly, Physicist Leó Szilárd read The World Set Free in 1932 and was inspired by it to conceive of the idea of a nuclear chain reaction.

The three books I would take would be architecture science and laws

As far as which 3 books, I'd say 1 for agriculture/farming, 1 for basic medical procedures, and 1 for guidance and moral values, because without guidance and moral values, the Eloi would make the same mistakes that humans in the past have made.

Scrooge McDuck once you hear it you can't unhear it. 🦆

3 books? Farming. Mathematics. And the bible.

In 1960, it was radical to criticize Victorian class structure?
