Jeff, I just found my construction site looted for building materials and my containers were forced open. It’s not history but it’s mine and someone destroyed it!

Hey Jeff, I used to work for an outfit that put bat gates on abandoned mines. (I know, I know, I suck) But by doing so, the mine gets to remain intact, not bulldozed, and BLM required that any head frame we found in the Mojave desert we were required to preserve. I am rather proud of some of the ones I was in charge of designing, I fit the metal beams so tight against the head frames that nothing bigger than a bat could slip through without actually touching the wood of the head frames. You'll find a bunch of really nice ones around Red Mountain. If you want a really fun scavenger hunt, see if you can find the mine that I welded a quarter to the end of a beam on the cupola!

Jeff, invite AJ ( why files) out for a day of prospecting in the drift mine. I think he would get a big kick out of it.

Jeff, Almost straight north of you on the other side of the mountains is a very hard to find mining ghost town. Almost straight south of you on the next mountain range is an old Tungsten mine. The old Tungsten mill is near the town to the west, trees all around it hiding it from most people. There are so many abandoned mines around there and I know some of the people holding the leases. Its all 10-20 minutes in any direction from where I live. I might be able to get you some contacts if you wanted.

Just to spend a weekend investigating the old timers lives with jeff is a bucket lister for sure

Speaking about animals and gold here’s a quick crazy little story, My old man bought a waterfall property that supposedly had been a gold mine in past and also mill site for flagpoles in civil war time , anyway he was debating on purchase from this man they called Santa ! He looked like Santa but also was a crazy old man that went to prison for selling coke! . The old man said people found gold etc , but he went down threw a worm in caught a beautiful rainbow trout and brought it back home to show my mother who was against buying this property. He said to my mom “Dot I swear I see the gold in the river , he put the fish on a plate and said I bet this fish even has gold in it joking to her . When he cut the trout open it was filled with weirdly gold colored meat . It was so Gold it was wild to see and so he tossed it in the microwave just to see cause they’re not eating this weird gold fish meat and it started sparking in the microwave!! Idk what it was to this day but he showed me some things in life people would have a hard time even believing let alone seeing . That’s a small condensed bit of the whole  story but it gets much better and truly a God given story.

found gold dust on a creek coming down a cascade foothills near Mt rainier when we were kids out fishing and exploring   lots of caves and an old hermit  up on top of a bluff overlooking Enumclaw     a bunch of us every Saturday rode our bikes as far as we could  and then walked up next to Boise creek into the foothills…

That is a Wisconsin brand engine, I serviced a few over the years as a mechanic ....parts available from Pitt Auto Electric company in Pennsylvania...That unit could run again...nice to see it .

That engine on the old winch, is a Milwaukee Motors engine. My dad worked in this plant in Milwaukee for years. I can always tell by the shape of the cowling. These were heavy duty, high use engines. The blocks were cast iron and  the cylinders, I recall, had cast iron sleeves. They can easily come back to life with a little coaxing.

I was there about five years ago.  I thought that looked like a area I'm familiar with, and when you mentioned the Keystone Mine it was confirmed.  My new house is almost finished and is about 10 miles northeast on the other side of the mountain.  There used to be roads/trails through the mountain but they are all gone.  Takes about an hour to drive around the mountain.  There is a fun off-road trail that goes up the mountain nearby.  It goes past several mines with lots of buildings and equipment still remaining.  Ends up at the top of the mountain at a wide graded road below the peak.  I have downloaded an old map from the 1940's that has all the mines in the range listed on it.  Very cool stuff.  That mountain range is full of history, and its one of the few wild horse sanctuary areas in the country.  I very much enjoy your videos.  Keep it up Jeff.  You and a good friend are what got me into metal detecting.

Can you believe where your standing used to be a town large enough to be the county seat from 1877-1987?

The ghost town to the south is gone.  They reopened the mines there and bulldozed everything, including the large headframe.
