He’s laughing, but you can tell by his eyes that he’s suffering..Joaquin put his heart into this role. Amazing acting

“It’s a medical condition causing sudden, frequent and uncontrollable laughter that doesn’t match how you feel. It can happen in people with a brain injury or certain neurological conditions.

Thank you!

Should’ve done the first 2 hours 2 minutes and 38 seconds opening scene

He’s so harmless at the beginning, I just want to hold him 🥺

I watched this movie by myself in an empty theater on a cold rainy night when it came out.
I laughed at some parts, I weeped at others. It changed my life. The fact that the movie was wrapped in so much controversy when it came out only made the whole experience even more surreal for me.

Be kind. Love breeds love and healing. Hate breeds more hate and damage.

Every time he laughs, he actually cries and breaks down inside

Be kind to people. If there’s anything to take away from this movie, it’s that. You never know who’s going through what and just how hard life is for some.

That laugh during the therapy session sounded really painful

bruce wayne: i have the saddest origin story
arthur fleck: hold my condition card ( and kindly return it please )

He was such a nice guy, all he wanted was to make the world laugh, but society treated him terribly

The fact that Arthur responded with “Yes,  Ma’am” after his therapist asked if he’d been keeping up with his journal. He’s a respectful person at heart, but it was the society, environment, abuse, and his condition that ultimately led him to become The Joker. I’ve honestly never sympathized with a villain as much as Joker. This movie was excellent!

No wonder Arthur became the Joker. Poor man needed help and attention.😢

She didn't return the card. She singlehandedly doomed the city.

Arthur wrote in his diary about how he saw a dead homeless drunk man lying on the sidewalk, with people stepping over the body. He said that maybe he's happier (the dead guy, maybe in a better place now) but then Arthur wrote he didn't want to die like that, with people stepping over him. He said he wants to be noticed and ""I just hope my death makes more cents than my life." What's sad about this entire scene is that the therapist doesn't even ask him about this. She reads it aloud but does not pursue Arther on it at all. She doesn't care enough to. She just discusses his medication. It's a realistic depiction of how society is guilty of abandoning it's mentally ill and depressed population and instead of genuinely trying to help people and make their lives better we drug them up thinking that will solve all their problems.

Later on in the movie Arthur says to her "You don't listen, do you? I don't think you ever really hear me. You just ask the same questions every week. For my whole life I didn't even know if I ever really existed." To which she completely ignores. Arthur is basically admitting to having identity issues and showing signs of struggling with reality - not knowing what is real and what is not real.

But the therapist is more concerned with letting Arthur know that the funding for the facility is being cut and that she will no longer be his therapist. Her complete lack of interest in him is only more prevalent and obvious with a lack of regret for failing him too.

I think this movie is the perfect portrayal of society's attitude towards mental illness. Even though we've come a long way from how things used to be, nothing really has changed. People like Arthur are left behind and abandoned. But not just people with mental illness, but people who are poor or in poverty too, as poverty can have a massive affect on mental stability and well-being. When you see how trash is piled up all over the city and the poor conditions people are forced to live in it's only obvious it's going to cause problems, not only to people's physical health buttheir mental health too.

Excellent movie filled with so many meanings and interpretations.

The thing is that I totally understand his descent into madness.

So Arthur immediately knows to protect his crotch and the back of his head when he's getting beat on, like he's used to this happening to him, which is depressing to say the least.

“I just don’t want to feel bad anymore” 💔

Just noticed something.

The beginning title card, “JOKER” is written in bold heavy letters symbolizing that it’s going to be a heavy and tragic movie ahead. At the end of the movie, “the end” is written in lighter, fancier letters symbolizing that the end was lighthearted or comedic.

This is reference to one of Arthur’s lines. “I thought my life was a tragedy. Now I realize it’s a comedy.” The movie started out as a tragedy and ended as a comedy.

She didn’t kindly return his card back :(

when he was told to stop "bothering" the kid, I felt that. he was trying to feel better about himself and trying to entertain the kid :(
