Bobby Clarke!!! Fantastic! We loved listening to him tell his story. Great interview with a great man. He is a perfect example of why Hockey is the best sport.
Wow! Fantastic Interview guys. In my opinion, Bobby Clarke is still the best team captain, team leader, and team mate the NHL has ever seen. His absolutely relentless work ethic, coupled with his insatiable thirst for victory and personal courage, was second to none. And on top of all this, he is a kind, decent, and humble being. A bobby Clarke fan, you bet I am, not only in hockey, but in life as well!!
There’s few players I respect more than Clarke, make no mistake, he was the general, the leader of an expansion team that won back to back cups in 74,75. It never would’ve happened without Bobby Clarke - and we probably wouldn’t have won the Summit series in 72 without him.
Growing up halfway between Toronto and Detroit it was all Red Wings and Maple leafs. But there is number 16 Bobby Clarke, the legend. I had a book when I was a kid detailing his life and talked about the diabetes he had. I had no idea what it was but I really didn’t care at the time. I was mesmerized by his toothless grin, Hart and Stanley Cups. He was known as a warrior.Diabetes to me was this bizarre impediment that only Bobby Clarke had. I always remembered the book. One day my son got sick and he was put in ICU. We almost lost him and it was a horrible day. Once we knew he had type one diabetes and everything settled down I told him he’s gonna be fine, he will able to live a great life because Bobby Clarke did it. He read that book in the hospital that day. I didn’t know it then as a young boy, how important Bobby Clarke’s book was going to mean to mean to me one day as a father
One of my favorite stories of my Flyers back in the cup days....is when they all had black arm bands on during a practice because...their favorite tap room in Jersey, Rexy's... burned down! Still cracks me up! The Flyers organization is one of the best pro sports clubs of all time. It was a culture that Ed Snider started. When all the dad's were there in the locker room, drinking beer from the cup with their boys. This season, they had a Mom's event that was just adorable. Had all the Mom's at a home game and I think a game in Boston. So sweet to see all those mom's in their Flyers sweaters and gear cheering on their son's. After all, it was the Moms that got them to practices and game. Made their boys eat their veggies and all of the great things moms do. They Flyers do things they don't have to do...but do anyway because once you're a Flyer, you are family. It can be a hard town to play in but...most players, smart players and not snotty draftees (Quack Quack 😉) want to play there and love to play there. Another great Freddie the Fog Shero quote.... "Will today and walk together and we walk together forever!" That was Freddie. From my Flyers Emblem tattoed on my chest to my 8 surgeries from playing hockey (being 5"8" and trying to be Mark Howe or Brad Marsh...lol!) and my full dentures... I will bleed Flyer's Orange until the day I die. Godspeed Ed Snider, one of my personal heros for bringing the best damn game ever to Philly and for those Flyers teams of the 70s. Not just players with character...but a bunch of damn characters! 😉😊
Bobby Clarke, master of hard work and commitment to winning, lead by example and putting the team first,no better captain for any team, anywhere, any time.Mvp and legend.A very nice interview,a lot of good questions and answers. Thanks for doing it.
My absolute favorite hockey player. Had a Bobby Clarke stick as a kid and still have a number 16 jersey. A legend as a leader and I couldn't be prouder than I was about that Flyers team through all of Bob Clarks years. Made me a lifetime fan
Listening to this was a treat and had my week. I could listen to these stories for hours! Bob Clarke was the best Flyers player all time. Hearing Bob’s stories of who was the best player to play against was interesting. I was surprised Larry Robinson wasn’t one of the hardest defenseman to play against but Denise Potvin and Serge Savard were no surprise. Bob seems like a a genuinely nice down to earth person who would be awesome to have a beer with!
Greetings from the USSR!
Bobby Clarke is a true sports legend, yep, he was not easy guy on the ice for each opponent, doesn’t matter it is the Club level, or National/NHL team, today he is just an example of a positive person with a wonderful sense of humor!
In the USSR we didn’t like him... basically for a sports incident with Valery Kharlamov, including who, by the way, he was my favorite Soviet hockey player... But Bobby Clarke did not let down not only the Soviets - he played in the same style in the NHL... I don't really remember details the Summit 72 games, I was 10 years old, but in general the feeling was fantastic? It as like we watch the other side of the Moon in hockey – Canadian people shoulder by shoulder. And Soviets the same. United by the game! I was real sports competition, guys on the ice from both sides played the game based on non-commercial interests, battled for the homeland! This approach doesn’t exist anymore…
A true captain, dedicated to his club. There, in the 70s, in NHL they had the bully team in Philadelphia I saw around... Schultz, Leach, Kelly…. I remember when the Flyers played CSKA (Red Army) in January 1976, I honestly felt the shame when the CSKA players walked off the ice.... If CSKA thought they were playing Philly, then Philly thought they were playing Red Army, against the sons of the winners of WW II... and they were blown away, because have not prepared themselves for the battle.... If you are afraid of your opponent, it’s time to hang up your skates. Weakest goes to the wall, indeed!
