the whole part about the vampire getting around an Invitation reminded me of the best parts of Fright Night (2011)
"I don't need an invitation if there's no house"
"The cross only works if you have faith in it Charlie"

The ritual was sucessful
Mrrhexx, lord of all lore has been resurected and with that we can finally have a new era of knowledge.

Vampire: "I can't enter a house, unless I can, unless I can't, unless you invite me, but only if you're allowed to invite me and only once, except sometimes"

On the note of forbiddance: in Christie Golden's 'Vampire of the Mists', Strahd is actually able to enter every single home in Barovia on the grounds that he is still the king, and owner of the entire kingdom, and every building in it. that's how he can just fly over the Vallakian pallisade during the Feast of St Andral's event in Curse of Strahd

Welcome back my D&D Lore Lord. Also congratulation on completing your book.

My own personal interpretation of home has always been 'the hearth', a more pagan understanding of the family's love for each other and the warmth of the fireplace through the coldest and darkest winters being a spiritual thing sometimes involving protective spirits. Instead of going into rulelawyering and 'haha if we think of it like this, vampires could or cannot...', a vampire cannot enter a home. Not a house or building, a home.

A vampire, as a foul spirit, could fool a kindhearted child or romanced daughter into letting it into the house. And the vampire can enter without issue a store or abandoned cabin that they chase a victim into. But the main narrative of a house is that a vampire cannot enter it and can merely stalk outside while the family is tight and loving. But when the hearth grows cold; when the family argues or breaks up or the latest son grows greedy, or greed and wealth overtakes the family's priorities, or only a few mourning remain whilst half have left for the war or the city life, that's when the vampire can sneak in and begin their nightly terrors.

When the TTRPG Community needed Him most, He returned!

Glad to have you back! Glad to have backed Sands of Doom!

Part 3 at long last. Awakening from the coffin! Very fitting!

As a note, using older sources like 2e, as a Vampire gets older it begins to become immune to these weaknesses. Where a vampire more than 800 years old is immune to Sunlight, only subject to Forbiddance. Mirrors and Garlic are lost first, then Holy Symbols, then Running Water, then Sunlight (each age category being capable of being in sunlight for longer).

Edit: Neat! He did cover it, should’ve waited till posting lol…

Hallow is a 5th Level Cleric's Spell (24hr casting time) that could protect an area with a 60ft radius from undead willingly entering the area. Forbiddance is a 6th Level Cleric Spell that could be set up in 10 minutes as a Ritual to protect an area of 40,000sq ft. (200x200) for 1 day, and could be set up to do significant damage to the vampire.

Between you and Dungeon Dad I can finally get all my lore and cool ideas.

Are we entering a new Rhexx golden era? Let's gooo

Stopping vampires with real estate tresspassing laws for the win :D

.9 seconds to click. Ashamed I paused so long.

17:15 I can definitely see a paladin full of garlinc grappling a vampire and jumping into a river just to kill him

It's kinda funny, that this Video was released now, as I just recently looked into Vampire weaknesses.
So, what I've learned, is, that most of a vampires weaknesses are somewhat metaphysically linked to the concept of purity, be it physical or spiritual.
Many have objects of their aversion have antimicrobial properties: silver, salt, garlic, sunlight.
Salt seems to be generally believed to be effective against undead.
Holy water could technically be seen as double effective against vampires, as it is salt water blessed by a Priest.
Holy symbols, scriptures, holy water, and the like symbolize spiritual purity.
The stake through the heart apparently began as a stake made from wood of hallowed trees, like oak or ash or thorn, so again linked to spiritual purity.
And silver, as stated above, is, in addition to having antimicrobial properties, also considered spiritually pure, which is why it's so often considered as effective against evil.
You know where the "vampires not showing up in mirrors and photos" comes from? Silver. At that time, mirrors were usually either made of or backed with silver, and in early photography they used silvernitrate.

Now something new I recently learned: apparently silvernitrate is also used for making x-rays, so in theory, a Vampire wouldn't show up on them either. Is it of any use? Probably not, since they are generally believed to have strong regeneration abilities, so it's unlikely one would go to the doctor for a broken bone. But it could have situational uses. Maybe vampires have trouble travelling in the modern world, because of x-rays at airports, or something like that.

I've waited a whole decade for this, excited to have him back

I figured the Sun is generally regarded as a sacred icon and worshipped granting it the same powers a holy symbol has against a vampire. Thusly the rays of the sun that touch the vampire affect it in the same way as putting a holy symbol against their skin.

In D&D Palor and Lathander are the two big solar deities but by extension Chanteau and the other deities whose domains of nature which depend on the Sun for growth might also lend their power to the symbolic Sun when used against Vampires. Like a combination of several deities all burning through them.

This gets ever more complicated when you consider vampires of Ravenloft; 2nd Edition made it harder with a plethora of non-human vampires (as in, not human before becoming undead), and all of them had different weaknesses.

For example, say the vampire you are dealing with is a Dwarven Vampire. It has no problem crossing running water, but cannot cross a line drawn with powdered metal; it doesn’t need to be invited, but cannot enter a structure that is not at least partially made of stone (you’re safe in a wooden thatched hut, but a sitting duck in a large dwarven fortress). To actually kill one, it must be impaled on a naturally formed stone stalactite or stalagmite (one created by magic will not work), then its heart must be cut out, soaked in oil for three days, then burned. Yeah, try figuring all that out without consulting the Monstrous Compendium entry.

And that’s for dwarves, there are separate methods for elf, gnome, halfling, drow, and kender vampires (no, seriously, they had kender vampires), plus human variants like the cerebral vampire. Plus vampires of all varieties in Ravenloft become stronger the older they get, making them resistant or immune to some weaknesses, and let's not even get into the unique Domain Lords like Strahd.

In all fairness, this is meant to encourage roleplaying, storytelling, and in-game research, concepts common in a Ravenloft setting.

YES! WE'RE SO BACK!
