The Petrópolis–Teresópolis Crossing, located in the Serra dos Órgãos National Park (PARNASO), is considered by many to be the most beautiful mountain trail in Brazil. During three days of hiking, we crossed some of the most impressive landscapes of the Serra do Mar, facing long climbs, technical sections, and unforgettable rewards at every kilometer.
Our adventure began early in the morning at the Petrópolis headquarters, heading towards the famous Castelos do Açu, where we set up camp and spent the first night surrounded by one of the most incredible landscapes of the crossing.
On the second day, the alarm clock rang at 2:30 am. Still in the dark, we broke camp to begin one of the most demanding stages of the route. The sunrise gifted us with a spectacular view of the Portals of Hercules, one of the most famous postcards of the park. After that, we continued hiking practically all day, crossing valleys, ridges, and high-altitude sections until we reached Shelter 4, where we rested for the last day.

On the third and final day, we woke up early to watch the sunrise at Pedra do Sino, the highest point in the Serra dos Órgãos National Park. After this unforgettable moment, we began our descent towards the town of Teresópolis, passing by the incredible Mirante do Inferno viewpoint, which offers one of the most impressive views of the entire trek.

In addition to being a great physical challenge, this experience reinforces the importance of responsible ecotourism. Hiking in protected areas means respecting nature, collecting all the trash produced, staying on official trails, and minimizing environmental impacts so that this heritage continues to be preserved for future generations.

It is also worth highlighting the importance of undertaking this trek with an experienced mountain guide, especially for those doing the route for the first time. In addition to ensuring greater safety and guidance in navigation sections, the guide shares knowledge about the history, fauna, and flora, and helps to make the whole experience even richer.
